Mike * Report 27 Nov 2010 13:45

To be in your tree at all, he must have some connections, be it wife, children or siblings.

Emma

Emma Report 27 Nov 2010 13:48

hello he had a child robert mcglachie born 1885-1957, he appears on the marriager cert i have for robert and is a farmer

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 27 Nov 2010 13:50

don't think he would have fathered Robert at fifteen years of age

Emma

Emma Report 27 Nov 2010 13:51

that isn't a definate age, its just one i use as a rough guess but perhaps 1860 would be better, sorry i'm still a bit of a novice at all this

Good. That's a start

What else can you tell us from the marriage cert?
In Scotland I presume ?
Where and When?
Bride's name and witnesses?

Can you find the family on any censuses?

Emma

Emma Report 27 Nov 2010 14:02

The marriage was registered in st pancras london 11th jan 1908
brides name ellen elizabeth page, there's no mention of witness'
i have found robert on the census must be 1911 one as he was a trooper in the life guards based at albany street barracks
i say scotland as i believe thats where he must have come from

Emma

Emma Report 27 Nov 2010 14:04

i believe it must go back to scotland as robert was born in ayr ayrshire, info from 1911 census

Have you looked on Scotlandspeople for a birth -pay to view site

Usually scottish birth certs give the date the parents married

Emma

Emma Report 27 Nov 2010 14:56

i have just found this site, and tried to search but i have found no joy. I'm a little confused abou the harriet price and charles, coulkd she be another wife? and perhaps he married a former wife of roberts? tahnk you very much for looking

Emma

Emma Report 27 Nov 2010 16:09

Mike * Report 27 Nov 2010 18:01

On Robert's marriage cert does it say if his father is deceased ?

The marriage is on freebmd
http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

Strange that there are no witnesses recorded.

Charles Vote and Harriet Price are just the names of the other couple who share the same page on the marriage register.
They have nothing to do with your couple.

Sometimes there can be 8 names sharing the same reference number which is why it's difficult to tell who married who .... until 1911, when the index pairs them up.

thank you for all of your help, i have tried a number of different variant spelling on scotlands peopole and just keep coming up blank, heres where the story ends i feel, i dont know which other way to take my search now.

sorry mike there are witness' i assumed these were the names of the registrars one is clearly emily fowler, the other is i believe rose dadbon (alotho i can only really guess adbon the 1st letter is questionable) would they however have 2 female witness'?

on the marraiage certifiacte it doesn't say anything about marting being deceased

Emma

Emma Report 28 Nov 2010 18:03

the next step for me is to find the marriager cert from roberts second marriage to margaret johnson (1896-1959) to see if this gives me any more information on martin mcglachie

Mike * Report 28 Nov 2010 18:12

Emma

Emma Report 29 Nov 2010 16:17

hi helen i have looked at the pages looking at just robert, and there doesn't look to be anything coming up which i believe could be a match. i am now looking at robert martin with no surname but i have not found this one in 1886 as you said, i've looked between 1880-1890 aswell as your dates and it only comes with 3 results

Emma

Emma Report 29 Nov 2010 16:52

i am having trouble finding any robert martin in 1886 between those dates, but i have put in m*glachie and it brings up results but when i click on view it just takes me back to home screen, do you have any experience with this site, do i need to buy different creditd for different results?
