Hazel,

I think the Scotlandspeople website must be acting up at the moment.

I logged in and then it wouldn't let me log out again.

Won't let me log in to look at my previous searches at all now.

Don't waste any more of your credits meantime until things settle down.

If credits have been taken out as you say, chances are once the site corrects the problem, your lost credits won't actually have been lost and the certificate may be there waiting to be viewed.

Hazel,

Glad you managed to download the marriage certificate successfully. With both sets of parents registered, you will now be able to take your research back a further generation.

Happy to help out with any other queries in future.

Helen.

Helen

Helen Report 5 Dec 2010 21:45

Hazel,

I've had a look on Scotlandspeople for the marriage but no matches coming up.

However, I found a possible death for Ann M*Kenzie / Tweeddale in 1928 in the county of Midlothian ... District: Leith.

Could be the writing on the original marriage certificate was difficult to decipher and so is not transcribed onto Scotlandspeople.

Did you get the marriage info from one of their children's birth certificates ?

There is a James Jack McKinney Grant died 1895 - his death cert should give you a lot.
You can get it on line at https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/Home/

The reference no is 1895/431

NZ death certs are far more comprehensive than English ones

There are also two births, with what is obviously him as father

1891/1020 Grant, Charlotte May Bewicke . mother = Mary father =James Jack McKennie
1883/10326 Grant James Irving. mother = Mary father =James Jack McKimmie - so you probably need at least one of these

Get back to me if you need more help

Go to NZ BDM site

https://www.bdmonline.dia.govt.nz/

Click on "Search & Order Historical records"

When page comes up, on lefrt hand side click on "search"

When page comes up, click on "deaths" (towards the bottom of page0

When search box comes up put 1895/431 in the bottom box (Registration number) and submit search

The relevant line for James Jack McKinney Grant will appear (don't worry about the spelling - I'm sure it is him)

At the end of the line click on "order product" and then follow the instructions. Order the printout rather than the certificate - it's cheaper and usually has more information.

Let me know how you get on

Peter

I see they had another child no name registered in 1886. Pat has given you his burial place in Dec.
GRANT, JAMES J M

Plot : WESLEY DIVISION B Row 5, Plot 13

Interment Type: Burial

Title: MR

Surname : GRANT

Given Names: JAMES J M

Age : 49

Gender : Male

Occupation: TEA DEALER

Date Of Death : 09-Apr-1895

Date Of Cremation : N/A

Date Of Burial : 11-Apr-1895

Mary is not in Waikumete.

I take it the family went back home again as there are no further records either marriage or death for the family that I can see at a glance.
