Searching for Horace Spilling, I have found him on the 1911 census but it has trancribed his year of birth as 1858 but his age in prison in 1911 is 83 so something is wrong there. The Horace I am looking for was a musician the same as the one in prison but born c1888 he married in 1909 a Katie Oconner his brother Henry was a witness his father was Alfred Spilling. Can anyone help? Can I find out what the horace in prison did, he seems a great age to be a prisoner if he was 83. I can only find a birth reg in 1888 4b 150 Norwich can anyone find his parents for me?

Someone has made a slip up. The Horace shown to be in prison is recorded as 53 not 83

It is of course perfectly possible that a transcription error has occurred.

thanks but when you look at the census it says 83 so I am confused.

Wow thanks Christina at least this isn't the one in prison thanks a bunch any idea who his parents are?

Christina

Christina Report 7 Dec 2010 15:14

Actually on the records it says his parents are Harry Spilling and Maria!

Amanda

Amanda Report 7 Dec 2010 15:19

Well there you go its a bit annoying but maybe Alfred was known as Harry or vica versa.

Jonesey

Jonesey Report 7 Dec 2010 15:21

Actually the military record that Christina found does not rule out that the Horace in prison in 1911 was not your man. On his 1909 marriage certificate Horace 's occupation is given as a musician. Were he still in the military in 1909 his occupation should have stated either his military rank or that he was a bandsman rather than a musician. There is no record of a Horace Spilling receiving an army pension or WW1 medals so I am guessing that he was not in the army at that time.

Have you found his wife on the 1911 census?

Amanda

Amanda Report 7 Dec 2010 15:22

No actually not thought of that being a bit cold and tired thanks will try that now unless you have her at your finger tips.

Amanda

Amanda Report 7 Dec 2010 15:25

No can't see her on there.

Jonesey

Jonesey Report 7 Dec 2010 15:31

Like yourself I cannot spot her in 1911 under the surname Spilling (Any forename).

Neither can I spot a death for Horace in England or Wales.

Do you know anything else about him or her.
