yes, well it is a bit hit and miss, as only about 30% of the WW1 records survived WW2


But the fact that you didn't find him doesn't mean that his records are not amongst the 70% of records that are missing!


The best way is to look on the Medal Rolls, or deaths

hi my grandmothers sister married into the morton family in birkenhead but orig from yorkshire has connections with berry ,,east ellis etc if any help
