Can anyone help with this?
Kenneth Brennan was born, illegitimately, on 15 Feb 1912 in Grimsby, his parents were given as Norah Brennan and John Elston, house furnishers manager, both living at 12 Haven Terrace, Grimsby. They were not there on the 1911 census. Kenneth died in 1999, at the time of his death his name was given as Kenneth Peter Branton.
He always said that his parents were Laura Elizabeth Brennan, aka Branton, and Paul Clifford. His mother's death cert says Laura Branton widow of John Branton, died 1965 aged 74 years, giving a birth year of about 1891.
Kenneth had a replacement birth certificate with a solicitors letter saying ‘I hereby declare that I am the son of Elizabeth Brennan but I have always been known as Kenneth Branton'. In his youth ( c1935/6 )he lived with Paul Clifford at 11 Cheniston Gardens, London W8.
Can anyone find his parents in 1911 or earlier? I am trying to sort this out for Kenneth's daughter.

I don't see a Brennan / Branton marriage - this is the nearest. Any good?

rootgatherer - any marriage in this muddle is a possibility. I couldn't find a Brennan/Branton marriage!
I think I have discounted that John Elston as the occupation was wrong. To be a manager in 1912 he must have been something similar in 1911.

FBG his mother was believed to be of Irish descent but not necessarily born in Ireland. I know this isn't very useful.

FBG - no, nothing more is known about her. She must have been in the Hull/Grimsby area by May 1911 though.

Just as a check I have had a look for Jane Wellsted (Aunt of John in 1911).
This confirms that the John on the earlier census is indeed the same man as the one on the 1911 census with his Aunt.

I am not sure where Laura/Norah and Kenneth lived, other than the southern half of England, I will have to ask his daughter. Laura died in Brighton. Kenneth married in Kent.
