I have asked Kenneth's daughter if she knows where he lived as a child. Am having trouble posting this as the website seems to be undergoing maintenance again!

Hi All,
Kenneth's daughter has now told me that his early years were spent in, or around, Grimsby with various ( unknown ) family members. In his teens he was a boarder at St Georges School, Eastbourne - unknown who paid for this. His first job was in Nottingham where he used the surname Brant. He then lived with Paul Clifford, who he believed to be his father, in West London.
Laura/Norah was missing from her son's life for some years but "resurfaced" in Brighton in 1953. She said that she was born in Ireland. When she died her address was 44, Rosehill Terrace, Brighton.

I don't know if this will throw any more light on things.

Rootgatherer - have looked at the Brennen/Branton marriage you found but I believe it is between 2 other people, both in Hull on 1911 census.

Possibly Paul's death if he stayed in the area.

Can't find a corresponding birth so perhaps he was Irish?

I wouldn't dismiss the Laura and Edward Branton marriage. There are no other deaths for a Laura Branton on Ancestry or any remarriages,
