Find Ancestors

Can anyone help me find the surname of Benjamin ,who was married to Blanche Elizebeth Hayes ,born 1891,They had a daughter Phyllis ,he died soon after his daughter was born which was in 1918 in Croydon ,he was a warrant officer in the RGA , Blanche was born in Whiltshire ,and that is where I have drawn a blank,if anyone can help I would be grateful

If this is Phyllis's birth, then either Hayes was her mother's maiden AND married name, or more likely, her parents weren't married.

Birth: Hayes Phyllis M Hayes Croydon 2a 403 OND 1918.

There is no other birth reg of a Phyllis M in Croydon under another surname but with mother maiden name Hayes in the same qtr, which would give her father's surname if he was mentioned on the birth cert.

Blanche in census 1911?:

Thanks ,Yes I understand that,but they did marry,but he was already married,but thought his wife had died as she was a nurse in ww1 and both doing there own work ,in those days were seperated and he believed she was dead,so married Blanche ,he died soon after and she reverted to her maiden name,the daughter is Hayes,and it is possible they married after she was born,but they did marry , this is difficult to say the least ,but I am hopeful someone might know something

I have found that one too ,It is Benjamin as I have a photo whiche he sent to Blanche , that says yours Benjamin ,and it looks just like Phillis ,I am grateful for your help that you are doing for me

I'm sorry not to be of any help,but there just doesn't seem to be any record of a marriage of Blanche Hayes, bigamous or not, to a man with the first forename Benjamin, at least in England and Wales.

I take it that you have Phyllis's birth cert and that it has no reference to the father - I would have expected her to be indexed under his name as well if there were.

Really really long shot, but if you could find a site with photos of warrant officers in the RGA, you could try matching up your photo?

Also to try and find out if the RGA had any warrant officers, forename Benjamin.

Kucinta ,yes that sounds like It might be my only hope ,worth a try,thank you for all your help,Yes if I did find a Photo It would make my day, Blanche did remarry after many years and had two more daughters and they both said she did marry him ,but there are no other leads

Kucinta, yes that is the ones,how good are you, but there is still know way of finding out who he was ,only as what we have already said,IS THERE,Oh if only,You see he is my grandad and I would dearly love to know what happened to him and where he is buried,

But if she married Austin Batchelor using the name Hayes she couldn't have been previously married.

If you have Phillis birth certificate, does it give an address so you could try for an ER look-up to see who was living there when she was born?
