ordering the death cert would allow you to see who registered the death and their relationship to her, could be interesting!

you might want to look into ordering copies of the probate/ administration, they cost £5 and would hopefully give details of where Matilda was living when her parents died

this thread will help

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.page/board/tips_board/thread/1236176

also it might be interesting to see what happened to Matilda Ford's estate on her death, as she died after 1941 this wouldn't be online, you would need to request a search at a probate office or visit a probate office to find out

I might just do that, I think my mum might need to see it in writing as she is so surprised plus I have been trying to sort out that side for a while now and it just ties up all the loose ends!

Many thanks

She died in 1945 so no need for divorce. There is a marriage for a Samuel F Ford in wokingham in 1948 could that be him?

I see your grandfather married in Wokingham too in 1940 so they all lived in the same area

I have just spoken to my mum and she said that Samuel Ford remarried in about 1950 to a lady from Sunderland. So if Matilda did not die there might be a divorce somewhere.

jax

jax Report 2 Jan 2011 21:42

So it looks like she was still around then in her 60s at least

The 1945 death looks likely then

I cannot see any births for Ford/Vivian so if a sister had been born she would have been registered unless it was a stillborn birth?

I have just asked my mum and she does not know, she only remembers my grandad saying that she died giving birth. But I don't understand why I cannot find a death certificate for her.
