The Army papers say Beryl died 22 March 1911, if I am reading them correctly, EDIT the death was resistered as given by Kucinta earlier

Kucinta

Kucinta Report 16 Jan 2011 16:55

Free BMD seems to have the death for Beryl as first quarter:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Deaths Mar 1911 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Castledine Beryl M 1 Romney M. 2a 778

Edit: Could 'Mar' have been read as 'May' in family notes/records?

sorry Kucinta my eyes went funny and I muddled up the quarters on the birth and death you found earlier, have edited post above to avoid confusion

No probs Tempest - just with Linda thinking Beryl didn't die till May, was wondering if I should be looking for her as a patient somewhere - but looks like death date on army records you posted was correct and she died pre-census , in first quarter of 1911.

Thanks everyone I can now complete my grandfathers siblings. My Gramps was Frank Alexander He was born 7th May 1907 and was christened in the Church of St Mary in the Castle on 9th June 1907. Here is where it gets complicated. When my Gramps applied for a passport he had quite a lot of problems because although he had a baptism certifcate he had no birth certificate. He tried to apply for it at the records office only to find there was no record of his birth. The upshot is we have never been able to find a birth certificate. It may be that he was born at sea.He use to rock side toside in he sleep and her told me that it was mimicking the motion of the boat that he mum was on when she was pregnant with him??

or on FMP army births and baptisms, this seems more likely

GRO REGIMENTAL BIRTH INDICES (1761 to 1924)1761 - 1924

there's a birth of Frank A Castledine in Dover in 1907, regiment RA, the next bit is difficult to read but I think it says volume 1658 or 1659 page 213 or 218

Linda

Linda Report 17 Jan 2011 17:48

Sorry should have said. frank was born Dover and his father arthur Castledine was a gunner in the Royal artillary. second one is the one.

Linda

Linda Report 17 Jan 2011 17:57

when I tried to order a birth certificate using this I was told there was only a baptism record. In Dover castle itself there is a record in a glass case of his baptism but no record of his birth.

Hi Linda

I found the Northampton birth first on BMD register and didn't think it was correct, I then had to trawl a bit in the army births records as the 1911 census said he was born in Dover.

I think you should be able to order his birth cert from the GRO using the info I gave you to see if he was born on land or at sea etc

is anyone here an expert on ordering birth certs from army records?????

>>>>>edit

oh dear! posted my reply and then read your last post, sent as I was typing!!

There are some on here who specialise in military records. Perhaps you coul edit your title to alert them to Castledine military birth or something.
