Find Ancestors

Would anyone please help me with a puzzle please?
I have a Julia Gant born 1873 Thetford Norfolk.
I know she was living in Brandon Suffolk in 1891 from the census.
I believe shorly after that census her mother, Elizabeth, died and she moved to live with her brother in Lewisham,London.This fits in with the family story that she met her purported husband Harry Edgar Atkinson.in tht area.I have found a marriage Sept q 1891 in Lewisham but the marriage is either to William Henry Standen or Joseph Long.(source free bmd).
I have been unable to find any marriage to Harry at all and yet they went on to have a substantial family.
Any ideas please ?Thankyou for reading this.

Thanks Brummiejan for looking that up for me.So that would be around 1895.Any ideas why the marriage can't be found or have i been stupid and made a horrible blooper?

Most likely explanation is that one of them was married before. so either they didn't marry or Julia had a different name. Have you looked for previous marriages?
I would love to know the circumstances of their meeting as in 1891 they were both living in their birthplaces!

Have you tried to find a biography or where Harry worked - he was after all a Professor of Music so must have been employed in one of the universities or similar?

I thought Harry was in Lewisham in 1891 ,or oh no wasn't he.?
Does that census show him as single please?
I have looked for previous marriages.Harry Atkinson is harder to track,there are many.iI have not been able to track another marriage for Julia other thanSept 1891 in Lewisham..wrong man/men although she would just have been old enough i guess.
The family story goes that Harry had an affair with a servant at his Father's house and was kicked out and disowned from the family.The family had moved from Bradford to Lewisham at that stage.(Harry's Dad was rather highup in the Church and promoted to Lewisham,huge swanky house)etc
I believe Julia went to Lewisham to stay with her brother James after her parents death at the age of about 16.Perhaps she was the servant and they never married?Will see if i can find the deaths of either of the men in the 1891 marriage maybe she re married under either one of those names?

Catford and Lewisham are next to one another and i am sure that they met in Lewisham.Moving away to Kent when he was cut off from his family.
Yes i have checked the biography of Harry's Father.A poor boy made really good in terms of standing and wealth.How the mighty have fallen .Ha ha

If Julia had been married previously would the birth certificates for her children not give her name as Julia Atkinson formerly ??? nee Gant?

Hi folks back again thankyou for waiting.
I wonder if they did know one another in Suffolk/Norfolk,certainly the families may have.
That is Harry's death in 1949,i know Julia died also in Farnborough the year before.
Re the birth certs,i don't have any but think i will order one to see if her maiden name is on there,a very good point thankyou.
Re the professor of music...Harry is a bit of a character.He actually taught music at the local primary school in Farnborough Kent ,taking piano lessons and played the church organ.I can find no trace of Harry's professor ship.His Father was born in Norwich,was a fantastic musician and indeed a professor of music.Qualifying at the very best place from an extremely poor background.I am thinking Harry had a lot to live up to and decided he would have better standing if he juat called himself that.
Will look for the possible deaths of the 2 men mentioned in the 1891 marriage records.
