Antony

there is a group on facebook called Wrexham family History group. You have to ask to join but they may be able to help.

Antony

Antony Report 6 Nov 2013 17:20

I can see why Reggie. I'm still gathering information on the Allmands in their various spellings but I will ask specifics as and when.

ErikaH

Better to ask your own questions...............start your own thread

The people who helped on here before were somewhat disillusioned with the OP's attitude

Antony

Antony Report 6 Nov 2013 14:22

Not really, but anyone else may search/see and pick up the thread. I'd like to link this Robert with my lot but need to get back much earlier to see if they're connected.

If your post is directed at TOM, I fear it will miss its mark

He didn't return to his thread two years ago, so is hardly likely to do so now

Antony

Antony Report 6 Nov 2013 14:01

My research indicates Robert had 3 wives.

i spent many hours on this on google and other records without sucess and without much help from tom and i have now moved on.

Tom

I didn't say anything about trying to help you being a bother to me............but you have been chopping and changing your dates, which hasn't made research easy, and it has taken you some time to respond to the questions posed..

Your 'story' about Robert being a Mayor of Wrexham is not borne out by the facts as we have been able to uncover them.

He was living in Flintshire in 1851, and would have been nearly 70 years old when the first Mayor of Wrexham was appointed. (1857)

Perhaps it was another Robert Allmand who held an official position in Wrexham.....

This one perhaps?
1871

Name: Robert Allmand
Age: 37
Estimated birth year: abt 1834
Relation: Head
Spouse's name: Emma Allmand
Gender: Male
Where born: Bangor, Flintshire, Wales
Civil Parish: Wrexham Regis
Ecclesiastical parish: Wrexham
Town: Wrexham
County/Island: Denbighshire
Country: Wales
Registration district: Wrexham
Sub-registration district: Wrexham
ED, institution, or vessel: 20
Household schedule number: 176
Household Members: Name Age
Robert Allmand 37
Emma Allmand 35
Mary Allmand 12
John Allmand

However, as you stated in your original posting that you had checked the list of Mayors, and your relative was not named, clearly ,the 'story' is just that......a STORY.

According to what Tom has most recently said, Martha was born in 1822, so she is the wrong age to be Martha Bennion age 25 in 1851.

Tom

Tom Report 28 Jan 2011 06:47

Madmeg yes this is the right family, nad yes the marriage cert does confirm the father to be Robert.
I havent got a death for robert, 1859 was suggestewd by another member on this thread, so its quite possible that the abouve robert allmond is the same man.

LadyKira

LadyKira Report 28 Jan 2011 00:49

hello madmeg

that is one robert almond but in that case tom has not got the right death.

Madmeg

Madmeg Report 28 Jan 2011 00:44

This seems to be the audit trail:

1851 England Census
about William Bennion Name: William Bennion
Age: 2
Estimated birth year: abt 1849
Relation: Son
Father's name: John Bennion
Mother's name: Martha Bennion
Gender: M (Male)
Where born: Wrenbury, Cheshire, England

Civil Parish: Dodcott Cum Wilkesley
County/Island: Cheshire
Country: England

Registration district: Nantwich
Sub-registration district: Bunbury
ED, institution, or vessel: 5
Neighbors: View others on page
Household schedule number: 87
Household Members: Name Age
John Bennion 34
Martha Bennion 25 b Malpas
Elizabeth Bennion 3
William Bennion 2

So I assume, Tom, that you have the marriage certificate for this pair, which confirms her father as Robert, a wheelwright and publican. Is that right?

Unfortunately she isn't with her parents in 1841, so there's no other way of confirming her father.

Marriage of Martha Almand/Allmand in Ellesmere, Dec 1847 to John Bennion.

This could be Robert in 1861, though he is now a grocer:

1861 England Census
about Robert Allmond Name: Robert Allmond
Age: 70
Estimated birth year: abt 1791
Relation: Head
Spouse's name: Mary Ann Allmond
Gender: Male
Where born: Faradon, Cheshire, England

Civil Parish: Oswestry
Ecclesiastical parish: Trinity
Town: Oswestry
County/Island: Shropshire
Country: England
Registration district: Oswestry
Sub-registration district: Oswestry
ED, institution, or vessel: 14
Neighbors: View others on page
Household schedule number: 123
Household Members: Name Age
Robert Allmond 70
Mary Ann Allmond 65
Mary Allmond 27

Mary Ann is born Stockport, as is the Mary Ann in 1851.

Tom

Just an explanation as to why the helpers need to know how you got to Robert

You have alread said the spelling of the name varies .... and you have been working with this man for some time, so you have it all in your head.

You're asking for help from us

.............. We need to get our heads around Robert Allmand, your man, so that we can sort out which one he might be from any number of others with similar names

you're working off a story ............. you've already been told that Wrexham did not have a Mayor until 1857, yet you won't give us the information we need to be able to follow the trail, and give you what you obviously so desperately crave ............. a NAME in yoru background!

We're just members like yourself you know?! We're not paid employees of GR ..... and some pleases and thank yous wouldn't go amiss for all these people who have spent their spare time trying to help you!

so that is why we need to know the line up to Robert ..... to be sure that we have the right man!
