laughalot Report 16 Feb 2011 15:23

hi chrissiex sorry i'm getting you confused again i did mean me and my hubby may be cousins as his mams maiden name was jones,i dont think your noisy either it's nice to have someone you can fall back on on these sites as they can be a bit daughting when you first go on here especially with all the threads and if you dont even know your own grand parent as died when your parents young then you have no one to ask so thanks.the only brothers and sisters i knew was on my dads side was my auntie margret who was maried a few times, she had a daughter called lynne and a son called martin so i knew two cousins, when we did this sort of thing when i was in school about 40yrs now when we did it, then i remember my mother going to the school to tell them how they expected me to do a family history on about 25 aunts and uncles (mixed that is ) seems teacher had a smaller family mine like rabbits lol well we'll just have to wait asnd see wot pops out the wood work ha ha thanks again lynn

chrissiex Report 16 Feb 2011 14:02

Poor Lynne, we're not cousins, I'm just a nosey stranger, lol

one of many on these boards always ready to try to help out !

so if you do know that your dad's mother was a Jones then it seems pretty likely we've found the right marriage

once you have that certificate we can dig a little farther to try to find where that 'Powell' part came from

it may well be that William's mother and father were Powell and Hill and not married, that wasn't uncommon, but we'll see what the marriage certificate says ... even though it might not be the whole truth, lol

and then you can also let me know privately ... don't worry, we'll sort that part out ... who your dad's brothers and sisters were and I'll see what we can find about that.

hi chrissiex right i've had a look at messages at the top as you said and no messages on there only the 5 or 6 i've anwered so sorry about you saying i've not answered but i've not recieved them so when hip better i'll get on to genes reunited and ask them wots going on.i will try and explain as best as possible father born leslie l.p.hill (known as leslie lloyd powell-hill) born 14-1-1913 at port talbot, his father william rhys powell-hill so i think that under william r.p.hill but not sure till certs come back.dont know his wifes name yet? my mother olive powell-hill nee godwin born 7-4-1917 in bridgend her father was arthur godwin married elizabeth gravel 1912 in bridgend so all from wales at lest thats a start.a bit of a mystery where my maiden name powell-hill came from unless my grand mother on my dad side was a powell,i do remember my mother saying something about the name being changed before i was born as some part was dying out so thats the only thing i can think of.seems a lot of my fathers brothers and sisters was not registered as cannot find them on here, i tried genes board and not on there either so as i said i'll have to wait till i get my fathers mothers name.thanks a lot ps i got the one above this one lol

Hello Lynne I think you are not seeing my messages so I hope you see this !

what you did was send me two private messages, you clicked on my name instead of typing in the box in the thread here

that's okay ..... I answered them !

but you have sent me another one and you haven't read the one I sent you yet ..... so I think you don't know how to do that

look up above in the row of buttons and you see one that says Messages

it has a white envelope on it, this means you have a new message

hold your mouse over the button and a list will appear

click on Inbox in that list

you will see that you have messages with a purple envelope beside them

those are the ones you haven't read, the newest one is at the top so start with the lowest one on the list

then when you read it you just click on Reply underneath to send a message back

just reply to one of my messages to let me know you read them !

for info this must be Mabel Annie Jones's birth

Births Dec 1886
Jones Mabel Annie Neath 11a 617

chrissiex

chrissiex Report 10 Feb 2011 18:57

The only way to _know_ anything is to order certificates.

you do not need the bride's name to order this certificate

Marriages Dec 1908
HILL William Rhys P Neath 11a 1572

the only way to tell whether this birth belongs to that marriage is to get this certificate

I can't see how it can opssibly not be your William ...... William Rhys P(owell) Hill .........

Births Mar 1913
Hill Leslie Jones Newport M. 11a 617

birth dates on the death certificates of people who died at a very old age are not always correct, they are just what the person or their child or whoever registered the death thought

As far as a very lage family, maybe William or Mabel remarried ..... or had children with a partner they didn't marry .....

but unless you start by finding who your father's parents were you can't start looking for that

and the only thing I can suggest for that is to get the two certificates above

I still have no idea what this has to do with probating a will and you don't want to explain it seems but I hope you will feel better and be able to start sorting this out by getting those certificates

chrissiex

chrissiex Report 5 Feb 2011 18:34

Lynne, I put those details for Lesley at the very beginning of the thread

I asked you when your grandfather died, you didn't answer

I posted a possible death record for your grandfather, you didn't answer

I posted a possible birth for your grandfather, you didn't answer

I posted the registration information for your grandparents' marriage, you didn't answer

I suggested you get some of these certificates which will give you some information you need, you didn't answer

I explained that your father's name is spelled Leslie, not Lesley, and you pay no attention

I explained that there is no birth of a Leslie L Hill or a Leslie L Powell born in January 1913 registered in the first half of 1913

There is no birth of a Hill in Rhayader registration district in that time

There are 3 Powell births in Rhayader registration district in that time, the names are Albert E, Trevor E P and Florence M

Those are all searches you can do yourself at freebmd to check yourself

You have not apologised for accusing me of saying something I didn't say and I'm sorry but your explanation of what this is all about just makes no sense to anyone who reads it

The only way someone can apply for probate is if there is a _will_, probate is about wills. If you have a will I don't know what you need any of this information for, and it isn't even clear what information you want at this point.

All I can say is that if you do not want to take advice and for instance get your grandparents' marriage certificate and your parents' marriage certificate and the death certifiate that looks like it could be your grandfather's ........... well, there isn't anything else anyone can say, it seems.

chrissiex my fathers lesley lloyd powell-hill birthday is 14th january 1913 died 27th july 1994 rhayader powys hope this helps. i have written this before.i have never said any where that you have not been helpful

chrissiex

chrissiex Report 1 Feb 2011 01:37

by the way, the first thing i would do in your situation, whatever on earth it is, is retain a solicitor, and that is what I would recommend to anyone eslse who has to deal with wills and property

chrissiex

chrissiex Report 1 Feb 2011 01:27

excuse me lynne I said no such thing as that you "only wonted prebate to get my hands on some thing"

so I am afraid you are the one who could not be more WRONG, and more unpleasant

this entire tale has made no sense to quite a few people not just me

to probate a will you never have to prove your relationship to someone ........ unless the person leaves their estate to 'my children' or 'my nieces' and you have to prove you are one.

so this makes no sense to anyone.

no one really cares what anyone's reasons for doing family history are as long as it really is family and with you telling so many versions of what your connection to Arthur godwin is it just made no sense any way you looked at it.

this thread is about powell hill and you have not bothered to reply to anything I posted for you here so maybe I am the one who should be deleting now since the time I spent was clearly of no use to you

please keep all of your cheap personal remarks to yourself

chrissiex------------- if you tell me wot board there on now i will try to remove them.are you the same chrissiex that stated i only wonted prebate to get my hands on some thing, if so you couldn't be more WRONG as i am trying to get a house back that has been in my family for yrs, now a distant relation lives in it that nobody even knows,as my cousin and her children have now where to live i said if she applied for probate i would do this part ,as she has no computer plus i wonted to know where the name got hyphated so i did wont that out of it.i think its very suspicious of you to think like that is that the sort of behavior you would think of doing?-------lynne

could this be his birth

Births Mar 1877
Hill William Rees Newport, M. 11a 255

but Port Talbot is in Neath registration district so maybe

Births Mar 1877
Hill William Neath 11a 611

or
Births Jun 1877
Powell William Neath 11a 587

chrissiex

chrissiex Report 30 Jan 2011 18:51

Could this be your grandfather's death

Name: William R Hill
Death Registration Month/Year: 1956
Age at death (estimated): 79
Registration district: Pontypool
Inferred County: Monmouthshire
Volume: 8c
Page: 308

that is a birth year of about 1877 which is the same age as William Rhys Hill was in the 1911 census.
