I have no luck looking for a death ....... I wondered about WWI but I see no H S Carter to match .......

there seems to be no later marriage for that name around that area

His pension record is on Ancestry and he appears to have come through the war unscathed. It names his wife as Lucy Owen Carter and his children as Muriel born 1911 and Harold born 1912. he seems to have served until 1920

chrissiex Report 9 Feb 2011 17:48

do you have any idea when (and where) he was last known to be alive ?

ah

I had been thinking he was your grandmother's second husband (since he is not your grandfather)

but he was very young when married .... he was her first husband? she remarried? if so ... when?

no .....

chrissiex Report 11 Feb 2011 01:09

it is always possible he emigrated

I searched here, you can too for basic results

http://www.findmypast.co.uk/passengerListPersonSearchStart.action

for example there are

CARTER Harold 1893 M 1927 Southampton USA New York
CARTER Harold 1894 M 1927 Liverpool Canada Montreal

maybe someone who pays to see the complete records will have a look at them and see whether anything looks like (or not like) your Harold

you can add

emigrated?

to your subject line maybe so it is clear what to check

for reference this would be his birth

Births Mar 1893
Carter Harold Stanley Kidderminster 6c 264

Thanks for all your help, I will pursue the emigration route - not really thought about it before that but its got to be a possiblility
Thanks again - Michelle

thank you Lynne I knew someone would come through !

for the second one ... the other two Carters are on distant pages to not likely travelling together ?

No likely Isaac Carter in the 1901 census has a brother Harold

and we know our Harold had no siblings ...

for both the 'destination' given was almost surely just a first landing point

does occupation engineer or farmer match at all I wonder ?
