Hello

I'm trying to find my G.G.Grandmother Alice Craig (nee Howard's birth certificate).
Marriage Certificate date 1876 to Walter Craig.
Census 1881 shows Alice born 1857 middx, living Walter and another Craig family, there is a Mother In-Law Jane Hardcastle but I'm not sure who's mother she belongs to.
Census 1891 shows Alice born 1857.
Census 1901 shows Alice born 1857.
Can anyone help.

If Alice was not registered does that mean you would not be able to carry on down that family line.

No ! If you can find who her parents were and then get their marriage then you will have their fathers names so work backwords

In the 1881 census I think Jane Hardcastle is the mother in law to the family George H Craig and Mary Ann the family living next door to Walter & Alice

Christine,

The 1881 census that states mother in law, whom is the head of the family?

The MiL status would be in reflection to that person and that person alone... all census relationships are with regards to the head of the household (male or female)

I shall have a look now and see if anything jumps out at me .

The 1911 is a bit more specific about her place of birth, but now says 1859 birth year:

CRAIG, Walter Head Married M 52 1859 Boot Laster Middlesex Bethnal Green London
CRAIG, Alice Wife Married 31 years F 52 1859 Middlesex Bethnal Green London

Registration District: Bethnal Green Sub District: Bethnal Green North East
Enumeration District: 32 Parish: Bethnal Green

Address: 7 Vyner St Bethnal Green County: London

Added: The original image says 36 years married but when it's been scored through it's been mistranscribed as 31 years. Seven children born five lived.

I just looked on Genes Reunited but I have also looked on Ancestry and found a several births for a Alice Howard, some of the dates varied from 1855 to 1857 also diff areas in london middx.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 20 Feb 2011 16:34

Do you know when she died?

Depending when it was registered, the death record sometimes gives full date of birth.

PS - make a note of FreeBMD if you're not already using it.
