At least we have proved it is the same laura. Who knows why she was not baptised until she was 15. I could not find any of the otherchildren so possibly they were not baptised either. I suppose they could have been at another church but given Laura's non-baptism unlikely

Laura married William Riding in 1903:

Marriages Jun 1903
Crawford Laura Blackburn 8e 746
Ryding William Blackburn 8e 746

(Verified on 1911)

Maybe he was religious so she got baptised when she met him?

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 27 Feb 2011 18:30

Address on 1901 is 55 Tockholes Road.

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 27 Feb 2011 18:24

does the address on 1901 match the baptism of Laura

brummiejan Report 27 Feb 2011 17:34

Yes, definitely Sarah - all the names on each census are very clear.

unless Laura was actually 15 on her baptism - needing to be baptised before confirmation? Clutching at straws here

It would help to know what John's occupation was on that birth certificate

starnger things have been know than the enumerator writing down the wrong name. I assume it is the same on the original (I don't have access)

Jennifer Report 27 Feb 2011 17:30

John's occupation on Beatrices birth cert was a Tailor

only name on Beatrices birth cert for her mother is Elizabeth Goodman

Sorry if I am getting people a little confused

Yes, Lara/Laura was born well before this. What a family! A true puzzle. I can't believe there was a different woman 1891, but why on earth call herself Sarah A.?? Unless they enumerator was having a bad day!

lancashireAnn Report 27 Feb 2011 17:13

that 1881 looks good Jan. I've just found this - same occupation

Baptisms: 15 Jan 1899 St Cuthbert, Darwen, Lancashire, England
Laura Crawford - Child of John Crawford & Elizabeth
Abode: 55 Tockholes Rd.
Occupation: Tailor
Baptised by: Wm. Geo. Procter
Register: Baptisms 1895 - 1900, Page 40, Entry 317
Source: LDS Film 1595673

edit - on the other hand just noticed the Laura on 1901 was born a lot earlier

Probably a red herring, but might be worth considering if all else fails:

BARNETT Susan Jane Redruth 5c 348
GOODMAN Elizabeth Redruth 5c 348
Matthews John Redruth 5c 348
Toms Ralph Redruth 5c 348

what was father John's occupation on Beatrice's birth cert please?

did the birth cert just give the name 'formerly Goodman' for her mother or was there another surname as well

The reason I have picked up on the Percival link is from info given to me on your earlier posting of a marriage between a James Crawford and a Sarah A Percival in Blackburn District
In a later posting by lancashireanne she does in fact reveal that Sarah married a James Fielding and not James Crawford
So the next question who was Sarah A on the 1891 census

Thanks Jenny

I think Brummiejan and Rootgatherer are spot on with that 1914 death - explains the Victoria 1901 and Elizabeth 1911 conundrum.

Perhaps they never actually married?

brummiejan

brummiejan Report 27 Feb 2011 16:16

Maybe she was Elizabeth Victoria?

Deaths Mar 1914 (>99%)

I can see why you have the name Sarah, but not clear about the percival link?

Hi

I also need to clear my thoughts
I am researching back from Beatrice C rawford born 2 January 1891 her father was John Crawford born in Liverpool about 1855 on her birth cert her mother is recorded as Elizabeth Goodman who I am given to understand came from Redrurh in Cornwall but I cannot find any record of her birth----- or of her marriage to John Crawford
The reason I think that Sarah A was married to John Crawford is on the 1891 census she is listed as his wife with all the children I know for a fact are Beatrice brother and sisters living at the address that I have for the family that at time

Is this getting any clearer
Many Thanks Jenny

Jenny, can you tell us who you are researching back from please? Why do you think a Sarah Percival married a John Crawford? Sorry if it's been said before but need to clear my thoughts!
