Have you tried www.polishgeno.com you might find it helpful.

Or you could try www.genforum.genealogy.com and go to the Countries list where you'll find Poland.

If you discover that he was in the Polish Army you could try writing to the Central Military Archive. I think you'd have to write in Polish though...

Centralne Archiwum Wojskowe,
ul. Czerwonych Beretów bl. 124,

How old were Josef and Mary when they married in 1949 ?
Do you know when / where either of them died?

Update:

I have received the marriage certificate of Josef and Mary, here goes...

Josef Olchawski married Mary Margaret Duff 19 March 1949 Middlesex
Josefs father was Jan Olchawski, (was a Master Tailor)
Marys father was Francis Nicholas Duff, (was a Coachpainter)
First marriage for both.

If someone would be kind enough to help locate Josef origins that would be wonderful!!...thank you!

Thank Mrs Alan for me!

I will have a look. For the time being I have ordered the marriage certificate of Jozef and Mary (!) Not THAT Jozef and Mary! Really looking forward to receiving that!

Jozefs relationship to us is quite far away but it was too intriguing for me being the nosey parker I am! Here goes: My husbands, aunts, grandfather, (ish!).

Hope that all makes some kind of sense. Will leave an update once the certificate is received.

Thank you again, best regards.

hi talanya,
shes got no details, but ive just googled polish genealogy,
a few possible sites came up, but you might have to dig deep into your pocket, and still not get what you are looking for.
did you apply for his marriage cert? i think that could be a turning point in your search.
what relation was jozef to you?
i love your name, why were you called that? anya is a russian name, in poland it is ania, my daughter is ania, but where does the tal come from?
best wishes alan

hi talanya,
the only reason i know a bit about poland is,---------------------
my wifes polish. she traced a couple of sites on the internet
but cause shes always at work, shes not had time to look at them. and cant even remember where she found them.
try the doctors, they might have some idea, you never know.
