Hi again all, I'm having trouble finding my Dads birth date & death date, His name was Albert Edwin Griffiths, he was born in 1936 not sure of the month, he was estranged from all the family and died in North Shields, sometime in the mid 70's I think, Help plzzz

Are you sure it was 1936 ?

Only one listed was born in Weston, Somerset.

There's an entry for 1937 in Newcastle - could that be him ?

Thats what I was told, but maybe it was wrong date, I found the Somerset one myself but dis-regarded it thinking it wasn't him, if its any help, his Mother was called Marie Hemmens, think she must have re-married at some stage, and I know he had at least 1 sister called Nellie

The birth date & death registration could be right, but His middle name was "Edwin" not Edward, unless it was due to a clerical error

It would more likely be because whoever registered the death got it wrong.

Edward / Edmund / Edwin got confused all the time. My grandfather thought he was Edward born 1900 until he retired, got his birth certificate and found he was Edmund born 1901. As a middle name, it might not have got a lot of attention and the informant assumed Edward.

Or he might have been wrong himself and it really was Edward.

Gettnig the two certificates would be the only way to get more info.

I think it's "territorial" to post in a thread that one has sent someone information without saying what kind of information it is. I think it's rude to other members who have been trying to help a poster, or who might read the post the next hour and not know what has already been provided.

I think it's perfectly easy to say "I have sent information about a possible child of the marriage", or "I have sent contact info for a possible child" -- or whatever it is -- in the thread.

And I can't think of any reason why not to.

I recently traced my father who had been estranged from the family for many years, I obtained his Birth Certificate which gave me my Grandfathers name, His name was Albert Henry Griffiths, and I got his home address too, but the thing I found most interesting was that he lived in Newcastle Upon Tyne,and he worked as a Butler....and I was wondering if there was any way I could trace where he worked, I'm assuming that in those days it must have been a stately home, or a very well to do family, the year on the cert is 1937.... So just wondering if there are any clues or advice you can give me to get me started,

Hi again all,
just wanted to update you on my progress so far, I've just received through the post, my Grandfather and Grandmothers Marriage Cert on my Dads side, and was excited to see what it would reveal, and although I got my grandmothers Fathers name, unfortunately, my Grandfathers Fathers name wasn't there so I've hit a road block in tracing the Griffiths name any further back (temporarily I'm sure) I tried searching census records for him as he was born in 1909 with no luck, so I was wondering if I gave all the info off the Marriage cert, could you people do a bit digging for me please, my Guardian Angels :-).
The marriage was between Albert Henry Griffiths age 22 & May Walsh age 18, it was performed on 17th April 1931 at the registry office of Newcastle Upon Tyne, Albert's profession at the time was Groom (Domestic) and May was a Spinster, the address for both of them was 56 Commercial Road, Newcastle. May Walsh's Father was named John Edward Walsh (Deceased)
Any help you can give will be as always greatly received and appreciated,

as for the witnesses, there were 3 in total, Walter Anderson, Mildred Wright, and Annie Walsh, none of whom are familiar to me, but the third is obviously related to my Grandmother (her Mother hopefully)

No father's name probably implies illegitimate.

If you could give us the witnesses names, that might be useful.

Can't see him in 1911, or a likely birth record.
