My great granny MABEL VARCOE (b 1886)married William Biddick Stone(b1886) from St Mewan Sticker in 1909 I believe. According to my Dad's imperfect recollection he was then killed (possibly by riding a motorbike into a herd of cattle.) In the 1911 census Mabel has a 10 month old son called the same name. In 1913 she had my granny Thora May but there is no father's name on the certificate. I thought this meant that WBS must have died between the 1911 census and my granny's conception around April 1912.But I cant find it. Was he in fact still alive when his wife had Thora May? Is that perhaps why I cant find his death in the expected place? I find it really hard to find the death records! On top of this WBS junior also died young (my father thinks in a shooting accident) but don't know which year. I cant find him either as I dont know which year to look.

Could anybody help me?

Also is it likely that Thora May's middle name might reflect the biological father or would it all be kept hush hush?

Thanks to anyone who can help

Great - thanks - boy aren't you quick!!

Yes that is her and him...

I didn't have the parents of WBS senior that is wonderful thankyou very much Ann of Green Gables! You are a star!

Still no info/date about either WBS' death- it does seem much harder with deaths

I have the birth cert of Thora May 1913 illegitimate- does that illegitimacy get recorded anywhere?

Thanks again!

Sarah

Sarah Report 6 Mar 2011 23:38

Looks like the WBS you have who's married to joanna is the father of my WBS and that Martha BS is his sister- fab!

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 6 Mar 2011 23:49

don't think it would be recorded as being illegitimate - I'm useless at finding deaths - hopefully someone else will come on here and find that - fingers crossed!!

Do you think the repetition of the name William Biddick Stone signifies the same family?

these two sites look interesting - both have Biddick and Stone in them - I reckon somwhere along the line a Stone married a Biddick and that is why Biddick is a middle name for the children

I agree with the idea that Biddick represents a female Biddick marrying a stone but keeping the name alive
Thanks again
