But we ruled out Ruddock. I was the one who found that surname for Muriel, and she did not have a child with that name.

I don't find a
Crayston-Jackson
Dyer-Jackson
or Jackson-Brown
birth with that name (Geoff* or Jeff*, anywhere near the right time).

That leaves William as the possible father, unfortunately.

Her mother was Florence decina Scott its very strange

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 9 Mar 2011 20:21

Technically, Decima means "tenth" -- Romans sometimes named their children by number. ;)

Octavius/Octavia is eighth, Septimus is seventh, and so on. Her parents must have just liked the name.

What I meant, Bethany, was that I was able to find her in the deaths index because of that unusual middle name, and she died after 1969, which is when the index started to include middle names (not just initials) and exact birthdates (not just age at death).

As patchem mentioned, if you could get the exact birthdates for the other siblings, it might help find them in the deaths index -- as long as they died after 1969.

In any event, now you have the info about Muriel if you want to look for her family in future.

I know its a very unusual name, thank you everyone is being so helpful!

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 9 Mar 2011 20:02

Thank goodness for one unusual name!

Name: Muriel Decima Ruddock
Birth Date: 13 May 1904
Death Registration Month/Year: Oct 1994
Age at death (estimated): 90
Registration district: Tunbridge Wells
Inferred County: Kent
Register number: D7
District and Subdistrict: 5761D
Entry Number: 157

So she married a Ruddock -- Ancestry has screwed up the transcription, but it was Fred Ruddock, 1930, Lancaster. Fred born 1906 died 1990 in Northumberland; he seems the only candidate in the deaths index. Hmm, perhaps Muriel had a child in Kent.

Ruddock-Jackson births -- just one in Lancaster that looks like a possible, Frederick, around the time of the marriage.

So it looks like you can rule out Muriel as the parent of cousin Geoff.

If you get the birth certificates, so you know exact date of birth, this can help in finding their death (depending when they died)
The informant on the death certificate could be a relative, which can give clues as to marriages.
