VaIT
No need to change your name: just do what the census form tells you.
First name, surname, no place of birth.
None of our posterity will be able to recognise any of us!
But hey, what did posterity ever do for us?
[There's a separate "no middle name in 2011 census thread running].

Rimbaud Report 12 Mar 2011 17:16

Hello VaIT
You won't need to change your name to confuse your descendants. Just do what the form tells you: your first name and surname: like Anne Jones. No question about place of birth either, I believe.
None of our posterity will be able to identify any of us.
But hey, what did posterity ever do for me?
[See separate thread running on the topic of no middle names in 2011 census!!]

Could Williams be a "middle" name ?

I have a William Joseph Green birth index
1872 in Aston
There's also an un-named male for the same Aston 1872

Is there an electoral register for 1911?

I would have to say that the 1911 Williams have to be the Greens I am looking for. Although I have no idea why they may have changed their name?

I cannot see how they could be anything other than the Greens, when looked at alongside the birth cert I have for George that places him in that house at the same time !
The marriage also fits, 13yrs gives 1898 the same year I have for the index

Minnie Gibbons 1898 Jul-Aug-Sep Birmingham 6D 338
Joseph Green 1898 Jul-Aug-Sep Birmingham 6D 338

Green I would say.

Mothers maiden name is Green. George's marriage to Ada Jane Bailey also states Green as well as a father Joseph Green. Same on George's Birth cert

ValT

ValT Report 12 Mar 2011 15:25

storm, did George go by the name Green or Williams for his life time?

ValT

ValT Report 12 Mar 2011 15:22

The W in Williams does look different to the W in West in the address but that W looks like the Ws on the image in Worker and Well St.

Maybe John only signed his name.

Interesting one this! I've had a look at the original of the 1911 and where John Williams has signed, the W of Williams looks nothing like the W of the West in the address. It looks more like it's started as another letter (perhaps a G?) and then been changed.

I'd be inclined to get a copy of the 1898 marriage certificate and see if the way he's signed John on the census is the same as on the marriage cert.

NB - the birthplace for John is definitely Holloway Head.

It IS them !!!!!!!!! - It is just too much of a coincidence !

I also believe they have changed their name:

One of these will be Dorothy's death from 1901 census

Deaths Sep 1901
Green Dorothy 0 Birmingham 6d 109

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Deaths Jun 1902
Green Dorothy 0 Birmingham 6d 50

Even if he wasn't registered he should still be on 1911 census as he was alive.

I too think that is them as Williams in 1911.

There was a Dorothy died 1901 age 0 in birmingham J/A/S 1901 6d 109.
So she could one of the two children who had died .

The Joseph & Annie in 1901 were living in Wells Street where Eva is said to have been born. Joseph silversmith.
Is Minnie possibly a 2nd wife or did the enumerator mishear in 1901 6 put her down as Annie?
