just been re-reading this thread and read this which sounds as though you have 2 James Greenwood's. Which is yours please

"John Greenwood, James dad married Betty Whitehead, Susannah's daughter."

"And on James marriage cert it states Richard as his father."

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 5 Apr 2011 13:24

Sorry - I am still not sure how you found Susannah is the correct grandmother for your James Greenwood (as you know there are many James Greenwoods including several with father Richard)

is this one yours

Ann

I am sure I have checked this marriage out before.

I don't think I could find a James Greenwood as son on future Census records.
And on James marriage cert it states Richard as his father.

Thanks

Simon Report 3 Apr 2011 18:18

Hi Ann

I must have found him somewhere, but my record states 1841 census.
Maybe I found him in a different home not with his mum and James Greenwood.
I don't have access to ancestry right now to check.
He would have been old enough to be married my 1841.
I wonder if he married after 1837.

I will check again

The marriage for Susannah above could well be right, the church covers the Crompton area.

Prestwich-cum-Oldham (also known as Prestwich with Oldham)[1][2] was an ancient ecclesiastical parish of the hundred of Salford, within the historic county boundaries of Lancashire, England. With the Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin, Prestwich as its centre, this parish encompassed a total of ten townships,[2] and within them, several smaller chapelries.

Prestwich-cum-Oldham was divided in to two non-contiguous sections: the townships of Alkrington, Great Heaton, Little Heaton, Pilkington, Prestwich, and Tonge on the west; Chadderton, Crompton, Oldham and Royton on the east. The parish of Middleton divided these two portions of Prestwich-cum-Oldham from north to south. The parish covered 21,625 acres (87.51 km2) and was noted in 1851 to have a population of 94,470, and again in 1861, to have 117,961.[3]

How did you find John please. You originally said 1841 but he does not appear on either the 1841 or 1851 posted above.

Simon Report 2 Apr 2011 22:07

John Whitehead was Uncle to James Greenwood and son of Susannah Whitehead who are all ancestors of mine.

John Greenwood, James dad married Betty Whitehead, Susannah's daughter.

How many John Whiteheads are there with mothers called Susannah born in Crompton.

patchem

patchem Report 2 Apr 2011 22:04

There are many John Whiteheads around.
How do you know you are tracking the correct one, and what connection are you to him?
Thanks

You have the right census records.

Susannah Whitehead is James Greenwoods Grandmother on the 1841

I am looking for Susannah's husband and details of John Whitehead born in 1801.

Can you post the 1841 details as it would be useful to see who he is living with and what was his occupation
