The witnesses were John and Mary Smith .both bride and grooms fathers were ag labourers .,the groom a fisherman .
Both gave thier address as Goodmans Yard Scarborough.

Rose Ann is age 30 on 1861 census and age 28 on 1865 mrg cert.

On 1841 census with Christopher Tate she is 12 years old. with a brother George age 9 and sister Sarah age 6 . .

Templemore was a British Army Garrison , so if John Davis's father was a soldier he and Rose could have mrd anywhere .

Im so tempted to spend 5 euros looking at that baptism . Thank you for that .

I have to go out shortly . I promised my sister I would go to a Sunday Market with her.I would much rather spend my day on Family History .

Thankyou again for your interest . .Lynda

Lynda

Who were the witnesses on the marriage cert...also the address of the couple and the occupations of the groom and the fathers?

Gee

Gee Report 23 Apr 2011 18:53

Maybe she never married 'Davis' and just assumed the name to hide an illigitimate birth?

Im guessing at the moment

This 'might' be Johns birth and give us more info but dont rush into paying 5 Euros at the moment to view the full record

So this would be Rose Ann Tate?

Lynda

.The marriage cert for Rose Ann Davis and Wlm Brackenbury arrived today.

They were mrd Scarborough Register Office 03/09/1865 .

Rose Ann gives her age as 28 and her fathers name as Christopher Tate .

I found Rose and Christopher[ bn 1806.] on 1841 Census living Quay St Scarborough.. The name Tate has been transcribed as Fate.

Then found a Christopher Tate on LDS SITE bn Scarborough 1798 .Also a mrg for a Christopher Tate to an Elizabeth Beech 1824 Scarborough.

I found a Christopher Tate on 1851 census bn 1796 Falsgrave . This is mistranscribed as Tawglive He is a widower . and his sister Jane Tate and son George is living with him.

Still no sign of a birth or first marriage for Rose Ann

Thankyou all who helped me with this , Special thanks to Ginny for steering me in the right direction.

Her first born son was called John...not an uncommon name but another lead that points to her being your girl..maybe

If you get Roses second marriage certificate it should have her fathers name on which will confirm her maiden name

Yes I think thats a good theory Ginny , I ,m going to do a few searches on the Farrer family in Scarborough .

Thankyou for taking an interest and the time to look for me

Lynda

Lynda Report 3 Apr 2011 15:08

The one forJohn Farrer , yes maybe I could try that , Im ordering the brothers today , but dont hold much hope.
I have a feeling they had different fathers and thats a good theory re her being sent to Ireland .

Gee

Gee Report 3 Apr 2011 15:04

Lynda

Thats exactly what I was thinking. Maybe Rose got pregnant had the baby and was shuffled off to Ireland out of the way?

Might be worth getting that birth certificate

Lynda

Lynda Report 3 Apr 2011 15:03

Thankyou for looking on findmypast

Lynda

Lynda Report 3 Apr 2011 14:59

I Cant find a Rose Ann in 1851 , I thought maybe she was in Ireland in an army garrison .

Lynda

Lynda Report 3 Apr 2011 14:56

Oh that is interesting , I wonder if she was an unmarried mother and mrd
Davis after John was born .

Thankyou Ginny

Lynda

Lynda Report 3 Apr 2011 14:54

Yes Maddie thats what I thought , but I have.nt got a clue how to look for the mrg without a definate sur name for Rose Ann

Gee

Gee Report 3 Apr 2011 14:53

Now this might be very interesting?

I cant see this boy in the 1851???

Gee

Gee Report 3 Apr 2011 14:52

They did round down ages by up to 5 years on the 1841 census, so Rose could have been old enough

John was 10 on the 1861 census making his birth about 1751?
