When I lived in Cumbria,I was very surprised to find that the name Hodgson was pronounced HOCHON.
Not far from Cumbria to the North East & may be worth checking out.

2 people have a William Hotchon in their trees, and seem to have Barbara Irwin also. Have you tried contacting them?

Yes thats her Flick. Personally i think she was telling porkie pies unless he had a German name and it was changed at the time of the First World War. Many did including the Royal Family. She was definately woaking at Nunthorpe Hall in Oct.1913.

Fathers name was on my fathers birth certificate and he was listed as a merchant mariner and I believe that he would not need to be actually present at childs registration. He may have been at sea!

Yes her maiden name was Irwin. I have got the marriage certificate for her marriage in 1918 to Fred Eales
