Got your PM Lynsey and just thought I'd report it in the thread for others helping -- Lynsey has had contact with someone connected with the person with that "marvellous unique name" ;) and also found a reference to the surname in personal papers, so it seems that particular guess was the right track.

Lynsey -- I had another search at Ancestry, and Ancestry has transcribed that marriage as Shawbrook. There's a vacant spot on the GRO index page right there, although that is what it looks like.

edit -- also PMed contact info for the person with that name, in case you didn't have it, although it sounds like you do.
