Hi MALYON. Can you tell me where you saw the Portsmouth death for Florence May Wright in 1975 as it is not appearing on the free BMD listings and I want to order a certificate from the GRO. It is her exact date of birth that you quote.

Yes Rose, I just realised that too. So I still don't have a marriage for her. Maybe she died in childhood or simply did not marry. The person who listed her birth was right as she shows on the army attestation of her father Charles Frederick Wright. That same person mentioned a son called Norman who was born in 1933 but did not say where. Probably India too. Back to the INDIA Easy site which still remains a mystery to me. Even GOOGLE failed me and came up with touring holiday in India when I typed it in!!!! :-(

Unless I am getting very confused here, If there's a marriage in 1940 it's not your Joan Daphne who would only be 13 at the time? :-S

I shall send for the death certificate of the Portsmouth death in 1975. Could somebody tell me what is this INDIA-Easy site that seems to have records of the British Forces in India. Is it an arm of Ancestry or a standalone site please?
thanks Jennifer

Genes Reunited have a marriage listed in India in 1940 of a Joan Wright. I do not have paid membership to see this as it may well not be Joan Daphne Wright. Can anybody look on India Easy for me please?

JaneyCanuck
I have ascertained that the above and his wife Florence Mary Wrigfht nee Day had a child Joan Daphne Wright born Trimulgherry India on 11 April 1927. This showed on the army attestation. Any more thoughts on my problem now that we have this information please.

Thanks to both of you., That could well be her. Meaning her husband Charles Frederick survived her by six years and died in Southampton February 1981. The right birth year and possibly she used the name May instead of Mary which I think was the correct one. If their children remained in Australia it would explain why Charles had a neighbour informing his death. Cant wait to hear what the Oz libraries come up with.

I have sent an enquiry to the Library service in Australia who may be able to track Joan Daphne and her husband during their time on the Australian electoral registers. There is still light at the end of the tunnel!

Hello again everybody who helped me before. I have found out from an Ancestry member that Charles Frederick Wright and Florence Mary Wright nee Day emigrated to Australia and had two children - Joan Daphne & Norman in 1927 & 1932. These descendants could possibly still bein Australia. Any clues as to how I can trace them as I don't even know which state they are in. Their father returned to England and died in Southampton in 1982

Hello again Janey, I was looking in the military marriages and saw Charles Frederick Wright had married Florence Mary Day in India in 1926 and her father was named as Herbert Day. I looked up her birth and found she also was born in India in 1902 so that ruled out the other Florence Mary Days who were suggested as being UK born. I still would love to know if they had any children. What is this India-EASy source that is mentioned by above researchers.
Hope you are keeping busy - without reaching the tearing your hair out stage!
Regards,
Jennifer

I think we didn't know Florence Mary Day was born in India, and if we had, it would have saved me some searching ...

For electoral rolls, you can see them at the library local to the address, I believe. Since you have an address, you would be able to find who was living there on the date nearest to the death. That might help, you never know!

If Herbert Day was in the British military in India in 1911, he should show on the 1911 census, but I don't see him or Florence. I'm not getting what you mean when you say you were looking in the military when you found her. You found Herbert's military records, and she was on them? No other children, for instance?

It's a poser, but let us know if anything else turns up. ;)

Thanks Janey. It seems that I have to draw a line under this couple. Florence Mary Day was definitely born in India and her father Herbert must have been in the army as that's where I was looking when I found her. Seeing that Charles Frederick Wright died 30 years ago I suppose there's no way of checking electoral rolls from that far back - unless you know differently? The informant on his death cert - i.e. Daisy Alma French is probably no relation to him. I am still doing some searching for her - but looking after a two year old granddaughter is inclined to be a major distraction!!
Once again - thank you very much Janey. You are a marvel.

Jennifer
