Looks like you do not need to order the cert now as Ivy has found the details.

If you do need to order any certs please do not use ancestry they cost far too much use Gro

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

It will cost £9.25 (or what ever currency you use) which includes postage

These are the baptisms in the Leeds and Bradford area between 1869 and 1889 where the parents are Robert and Emma Wood:

Arthur Holden 12 Nov 1870 Birstall, St Peter 6 Aug 1871
Edith Wood 21 Aug 1872 Birstall, St Peter 3 Nov 1872

Frances Lily 4 Aug 1872 Leeds, Bramley 22 Nov 1872
Mary Anna 31 Jul 1873 Leeds, Bramley 23 Jul 1876
Ann Elizabeth 28 Sep 1875 Leeds, Bramley 23 Jul 1876
Samuel Farrer Machel 24 Jul 1878 Leeds, Bramley 4 Nov 1878

Walter Manningham, St Paul 23 Sep 1883

Martha Ellen 9 Jul 1882 Leeds, Bramley 30 May 1894
Kate Emily 19 Oct 1885 Leeds, Bramley 30 May 1894

Robert 11 Apr 1885 Bradford Cathedral 17 Apr 1887
Florence 22 Aug 1888 Bradford Cathedral 30 Sep 1888

Edit - looks as if Robert and Florence baptisms will be a different family; George's baptism (after 1880-81 birth) not included in this list; and Walter might well be for a different family - apologies, no time to look in detail at the images.

There are two close matches for marriages for Robert and Emma, but the baptisms of the children help to distinguish the couples:

Robert Wood 22, m 2 Dec 1869 Birstall, St Peter to Emma Holden
Robert Wood 22, m 17 Sep 1870 Leeds to Emma Machell

Ivy

Ivy Report 3 Mar 2012 07:31

Just to say that in 1871, that family were living at Waterloo Lane Bramley:

Household Members:

James Wood 1 Month

Thanks Jax, I had ordered this cert. through Ancestry.com, however. I had Annie Elizabeth Edwards as the Bride's name and they replied that my info rmation did not match the records. I'll try again.

Thankyou all for your help previously. I have now got the marriage certificate for Walter Wood and Gladys Wood. A recent visit to my Mother confirmed that Walter was married previously. His first wife is named on his marriage certificate to Gladys. Her name was Annie Elizabeth Edwards. Walter and Annie were married in Leeds in St. Peter's Parish Church on Dec 3, 1916. I had tried to order a copy of the marriage cert. and was informed that the information I had did not match the records??? My Mother recalls having a day out with Walter (her Father) and 2 other children, a boy and a girl older than herself and she has always wondered who they were. Now she thinks perhaps she had half siblings and would like to know more. So, I am once again at a dead end. I'm looking for Walter and Annie's parents and any children they may have had. Walter was born 1893 in Oldham Lancs. I'm estimating Annie's birth about 1894.

Hi Lynne,
i missed this earlier. The Clough family in 1911 is definately the right one.
Wow! I'm well on my way to solving mysteries now. Chris

Just in the passing John William Wood on the 1901 census is deaf.

Checking on Freebmd, Gladys is not a twin. I think Alice's age has been mistranscibed on the 1901 but it does look like a 3 on the actual image. I would agree with Lynn I think the 1911 Olive is actually Alice who would have been 8 years old in 1901.

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 16 Apr 2011 19:36

Christine, I think that there was only 1 Gladys in that family. You really need to buy that marriage certificate otherwise this is all speculation. Come back and let us know the details from the marriage certificate when you get it please.

Thanks Christine, Rootgatherer and Lynne,
Yes, Walter was married previously. I would like to find out more about this family, but have nothing to start with...yet. Gladys emigrated to Canada in the 1960s and died in London Ontario in the 1980s. I do know that her parents died when she was young and that her mother died first. Do you think it might be possible that Adelina is her mother and that she had twins Alice and Gladys and that Gladys died between 1901 and 1903 and that a later daughter (b.1903) was also called Gladys. I'll have alook at the 1911 census and research further. You have given me some clues that have potential. Thanks again. Chris

I have just checked the original 1911 census for Olive Wood (1893) and it actually looks more like Alice.

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 16 Apr 2011 09:08

The marriage for James and Adelina - just trying to find if Adelina's maiden surname rings any bells with your Mum to establish if perhaps Gladys was economical with the truth about her age.

Marriages Mar 1875
LEE Adelina Huddersfield 9a 407
WOOD James Huddersfield 9a 407

rootgatherer

This looks like a possible death for Adelina (the mother on the 1901 census)

Deaths Mar 1907 Wood Adelina 52 Huddersfield 9a 246

and perhaps her husband?

Deaths Mar 1910 Wood James 64 Huddersfield 9a 240
