Hi, I would like to thank you both very much for your help it is much appreciated and a great help I have found William James Dawe my great grandads death in 1961 and his wife was elizabeth crowder and the year they were married 1903 my grandad was James Dawe born in 1906, would my great grandads mother and fathers name be on his marraige certificate, regards Lin.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 21 Apr 2011 00:50

Lin

No, they wouldn't ....... unless they happened to be the witnesses to the wedding.

English and Welsh marriage certificates only have the name of each father with his occupation. Father may or may not be noted as deceased ..... depends on whether the vicar asked the correct question!

Name of mother is not on there, nor are the names of any other relatives, unless they are a witness and even then it will not say the relationship

Hi Sylvia,

Thanks very much for your help I am going to get a marriage certificate for Lucy A Dawe as she was married to Thomas E Rea and hope that I can get the fathers name. I was wondering if you would be able to find anything about my grandmother Elizabeth Holebrook 1907 and grandfather James Dawe married in 1913. I don't know anything about her or her family I have no names at all as she died in 1933 aged 26, my mother was only 3 so knew nothing about her. thanks again Lin.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 23 Apr 2011 03:34

Here's their marriage

Marriages Jun 1926 (>99%)

Dawe James Holebrook W.Derby 8b 661
Holebrook Elizabeth Dawse W.Derby 8b 661

note the transcriber has misspelled James surname on the cross-reference with Elizabeth

and birth registrations

Births Jun 1907 (>99%)

Holebrook Elizabeth W. Derby 8b 580

James is a bit more difficult .... he couldn't have been born in 1913, that would have meant he was only 13 when they married.

You might have to buy the marriage certificate to find out more information ... such as their ages, and the names of their fathers.

I wonder if this could be James' birth registration, assuming he came from the same area as Elizabeth?

Births Dec 1906 (>99%)

Dawe James W. Derby 8b 429

This other one would have meant that James was only 15 when they married, and is I think less likely

Births Mar 1911 (>99%)

Dawe James W. Derby 8b 465

I hope that someone might be able to look at the 1911 Census for you ....... I don't have a subscription to it.

I did try the free search on the 1911 census site itself ............... it said no Elizabeth Holebrook, and there were 2 James Dawe of approximately the rigth age ........... one born in 1906 shown as living in Liverpool and one born in 1907 living in West Derby

The 1911 census is the most recent one to search ........ so I think you might have to bite the bullet and buy the certificates.

I have checked the original and it is definitely Holebrook. There were 8 children, 1 died.

Lynski Report 23 Apr 2011 10:36

There are too many James Dawe's in the 1911 census - you would need the marriage certificate to get his father's name.
