I asked my uncle a moment ago about Maria Mc Nabb and he was stuck as did not know as his father did not want to discuss his mother as she died young and his father took another wife, all he could say was my grandfather william Holden had auntys born in India but no names or dates? feel at a total loss here and long to find this ladyIs she indian?
Any ideas

Just because they were born or married in India does not mean they were of the ethnic race...I think it is obvious by the names

susan Report 4 May 2011 21:52

That was the only idea my uncle could think maybe could fit due to the other births in India, anything is worth a try as so stuck and my uncle is the only Holden related to Mc Nabb alive and his memory is poor, I was thinking Scotland and the Trossachs near Killin Loch Tay area home of Mac Nabb or From Cork Eire which was once told to me by my mother (who died in 1995)
But all searches come to nothing as I tried BMD and Census records in all areas and feel so lost as to what to do next.
She has to be some place. can anyone advise or help.

Sure went in for odd names ! so blown away at all this wonderful information.
THANKYOU WITH ALL MY HEART <3

I was told of a romantic tale of a link to Cork, Ireland and Mc Nab being Scottish and or Irish, but that I think is just pure romantic stuff from my late mum as she knew nothing else only Maria was her Grand mother on her fathers side and she never met her. :-D

Maria was alive in 1885 as she was married to John Holden and had my grandfather in 1885 on 19th Jan so the death in 1848, could this be a sister to my Maria Mc Nab??? I have idea death could be june 1890? for my Maria Mc Nab in croydon but do not know how to check it..

Kucinta Report 7 Jun 2011 21:28

Given that Maria's family were living in Mitcham Rd Barracks in Croydon in 1891 and that her youngest child was born in Croydon, and that her widowed husband apparently married his house keeper from census 1891 in Croydon, also in 1891, you can't be more certain that the Croydon death is the right one unless you actually buy the death certificate:

Census 1891:

Living Mitcham Rd barracks Croydon.

Household Members: Name Age
John Holden 40 c1851 Staverton, Northamptonshire, England. Sergeant instructor Volunteers
Ellen Holden 11 c1880 Bengal
Frances Herbert Holden 8 c1883 Bengal
William John Holden 6 c1885 Guildford, Surrey, England
Robert Holden 2 c1889 Croydon, Surrey, England
Eliza Histed 29 Housekeeper

>>>Histed Eliza Croydon 2a 464
>>>Holden John Croydon 2a 464

Kucinta Report 7 Jun 2011 23:30

You might be advised to get the death cert for 13 yr old Maria Mcnab that Alviegal mentioned, to rule her in or out as the daughter of Blanche and John.

You don't want to jump to conclusions too quickly, and you still have no direct proof or even indirect proof that the Maria Mcnab baptised Marylebone 1848 is 'your' Maria Mcnab, since you don't know where your Maria was born or who her father was.

Maria Holden's age at death in 1890 is 38, which gives her a birth year of c1852, so seemingly 4 yrs younger than the daughter of John and Blanche.

Can anyone trace John, Blanche and Maria in census 1861?

It would be interesting to see if they had moved to the area where the13 yr old Maria died, making it more likely that she was their daughter, not 'your' Maria. I've searched for them in the 1861myself but had no luck.

Death: McNab Maria Mile End 1c 366 Sep 1861.

Wonder if this is Blanche in 1841. She was not born in county but at least we have a rough birth year to look for.

Where was Blanche Hurley born??

Thank you for all the help you are all great. :-) <3

Kucinta Report 8 Jun 2011 18:22

The 1841 census simply tells you if the person was born in the same county they were residing in 1841, or if they were born abroad.

So as Alviegal says Blanche was born 'out of county', all we know is she was not born in Middlesex.
