You say two Hugh & Mary.s nee Cambell each with a son Hugh born c 1898 but i would disagree with that ,as I have said the Mary born c1840 would be too old to have a child in the 1890.s

I,m back !! :D

Yes is would say you have the wrong Hugh and Mary nee Cambell. and the birth i posted is your Hugh with parents Hugh & Mary married Jan 1881, he was a Iron Ship Fitter so similar to a Ships plater
I did look at it on Scotlands People cos i was curious so I can print off the birth for you save you buying it again .
The census ones Maureen posted were the ones I saw.

Sandra

Sandra Report 10 May 2011 14:08

my Hughs father (Hugh) was a ships plater.

Sandra

Sandra Report 10 May 2011 14:03

I can't believe my bad luck.....

2 Hugh MacDonalds with wives called Mary Campbell both in the same area and both with a son called Hugh born around the same time.

Sandra

Sandra Report 10 May 2011 13:06

Maureen, thank you.

One of the witnesses to Hugh & Maria's marriage was John MacDonald so it coul've been his brother that's on your list.

I have the wrong parents for my Hugh then.

You have got the right marriage for the ones you asked for however if your ancestor was Hugh born 1897/8 then think you have gone back to the wrong Hugh and Mary.
My internet connection is playing up at the mo but think i saw on Ancestry the 1901 census for the Hugh birth that I posted. will try and look but its playing silly devils at the mo and I cant get into Ancesyry

Shirley, the Hugh and Mary marriage I found on SP says they were both widowed when they married.

I don't know what to suggest apart from put it down to another brick wall.

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 10 May 2011 12:25

Theres a birth for a Hugh McDonald born 6th aug 1897 in 5 McLeans Buildings Port Glasgow Road Greenock mother mary nee Campbell however they married 3rd Jan 1881 Port Glasgow BUT your Mary & Hugh married in April 1881.
Hugh was an Iron Ship Fitter

Still say she was too old to be having a child in 1897/8

Sandra

Sandra Report 10 May 2011 12:12

No, I haven't found his birth, I just took the details from his marriage certificate. I should've known it wouldn't be straightforward. lol.

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 10 May 2011 12:05

Have you found his birth though Still think Mary would be rather old to have a child in 1898

Sandra

Sandra Report 10 May 2011 11:53

On SP i have the marriage of Hugh MacDonald to Maria Gracie Paul Ferguson in February 1920, his parents are Hugh MacDonald and Mary Campbell. He was 22 when he married Maria.

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 10 May 2011 11:52

Well Mary didnt have any children with her in 1881 so would guess she & John didnt have any.

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 10 May 2011 11:45

Are you sure she had a child in 1898?? she would have been 56/7 years old .rather late for child bearing

Sandra

Sandra Report 10 May 2011 11:36

Mary was a dressmaker when she married Ferguson then when she married MacDonald she was a tobacconist.

Shirley, you're brilliant, thank you.

I know Mary & Hugh had a son called Hugh born c1898 in Greenock.
I now know she never had any children with John Ferguson unless she had them between 1871-1881.

Sandra

Sandra Report 10 May 2011 11:32

Shirley, thank you.

Their addresses at time of marriage was Holmscroft Street and his occupation looks like "Engine Turner" so, I think that is them.
