If it takes much longer David, do make an enquiry.

I waited 3 months once (it could take as long as 6 weeks to Canada) and then enquired, and it seemed the thing had got lost in the mail ... so they sent another one.

I got all excited then thinking you'd got the cert! :D Oh well, I guess we'll have to be patient for a bit longer.

Thanks for the update David.

Thanks for the info David. :-)

So it's looking more and more certain that the Roberts/Sharkey marriage I found for you is correct.

Did you order the birth record for Elizabeth Roberts 1903 so that we can 100% certain that the 1938 marriage is her?

Unfortunately without a marriage to James Campbell it is going to be very difficult to trace back on his side. :-(

hi every one
the source of the no marriage came form the irish office of birth, deaths & marrages as i applyed for the cert and they got in touch that it was not the two years that i put so i asked them to check the other years they went back to 1920 for me they the said if i wanted to go back to 1918 i would have to get in touch with another office by writing or phoneing and gave me the details so i have to work out the time difference between ireland & australia so i can ring in office hours. still waiting on cert's from sharkey/roberts marrage.
will post any new info as soon as it come in the post

David

Can you please let us know where you got the info from regarding the no marriage for Elizabeth Roberts & James Campbell?

Is this from an online source or is it information supplied by Roscommon RO?

Have you got the birth record for Elizabeth? And if so, what were her parents names on it?

Mary

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 20 May 2011 15:06

Well, my suggestion may be correct then, David. Since she used the name Roberts when she married Sharkey, she and Campbell were likely never married.

We're waiting for the Roberts-Sharkey marriage certificate, I guess!

Of course, the other possibility there is that she and Campbell were in fact married, and she concealed that fact if she married Sharkey bigamously. These things did happen.

David Report 20 May 2011 14:57

just to let everybody know there is no record of elizabeth roberts marrying a james campbell between 1920to1925 on the irish bmd but there records showed a elizabeth roberts being born 1903 in killarney

David

Now that we have established that the marriage took place in 1924 or maybe a year earlier, I suggest you order from Ireland GRO a marriage cert for them - they are pretty good and normally search a year or 2 either side of the date given.

Order from here:-

http://www.groireland.ie/apply_for_a_cert.htm

The Bessie Roberts and family on the 1911 census is almost certainly your Elizabeth, if correct, it says that her father was born in Kerry, so not Welsh but Irish!!

my dad did have a brother james born 1930, a sister dasiy born 1926, pansy born1924/died1925 and a stepsister shirley born 1940 as soon as the cert's turn up i will post them straight away
thank you for all your help and guidance

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 17 May 2011 18:20

David, are you going to get the marriage certificate of Elizabeth Roberts and Andrew Sharkey?

You have to cross your fingers that she named her father and gave her own correct age.

That seems like the only way of confirming that the Bessie in 1911 who looks so much like your Elizabeth really might be your Elizabeth. (It makes sense that if Patrick was Paddy and John was Jack and maybe Mary was Molly, Elizabeth would have a nickname too.)

Name: Andrew Sharkey
Spouse Surname: Roberts
Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1938
Registration district: Surrey North Eastern
Registration county (inferred): Surrey
Volume Number: 2a
Page Number: 179

Alemap

Alemap Report 17 May 2011 17:56

David,

Did you check the irish census?

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/

It shows Bessie (probably your Elizabeth) Roberts born Killarney 1903
She has 6 brothers and sisters. Robert, John (probably your Jack), Patrick (probably your Paddy), Dora, Mary (could be Molly or there could have been another child after 1911) and Daniel.
Father Robert.
Mother Kate.

If you go to irishgenealogy.ie you will find most of the baptism, parents marriage, parents for Robert and Kate and that the surname use to be Robart

Pam

Did your father have a brother a year older than himself?

Did he have an older sister called Daisy?

JaneyCanuck Report 15 May 2011 16:03

David -- please "untick" the message of mine that you have ticked as "answered".
(That doesn't mean that you have answered my question,
it means that I answered your question --
and your question hasn't been answered, so there is no point in saying it has.)

David you are still sending private messages, and then saying "sorry".
I have no idea why you keep doing this.

All your message said was:
that is the right Andrew Sharkey (the death, I assume)
and
your nan died on holidays in Canada when she had a heart attack.

We knew this.

Please don't send private messages.

Please **give the information you have** when people ask for it !!!!!!

I asked whether there is family in Canada now.
What was your nan doing in Goodwood, Ontario?
There must have been family there.
Goodwood looks like one tiny crossroads in a rural area.
Why would someone go there??
Is that really the name of the place where she was?
Have you got her death certificate yet?
If you haven't, why not?
It could give you valuable information -- like her date of birth ...

If James Campbell was your dad's father,
and your dad was born in 1931,
then James Campbell certainly did not die in World War One.
Did you mean he died in World War Two??
(after Elizabeth married Sharkey ...)

If you know that his name was on your dad's birth certificate,
then you know what it said his occupation was.
What was his occupation?
Was James Campbell his full name? No middle name?

Does your dad's birth certificate say that Elizabeth was Campbell formerly Roberts?
Or just Roberts?

You don't *know* that Elizabeth Roberts ever married James Campbell, right?
And since her name was Roberts when she married Sharkey,
she obviously never did marry Campbell.

You still have not told us whether you have the certificate of the marriage to Andrew Sharkey,
and if you do -- what it says for their ages, their fathers' names, etc.

I'm afraid that this is where I give up.
Once again, you are asking people to do things for you and just not doing anything at all to help.

You saying the same thing over and over (the Sharkey marriage, your nan's death)
without **answering the questions** people ask
just isn't going to get anybody anywhere.

You may have a mystery that can't be solved.
You never know.
But if you don't share what you do know, it's certain it never will be solved.

David

David Report 15 May 2011 12:22

this is not the james campbell as his name is on my dad birth cert and he was born 1931 .
