I think it was just a hamlet as it did not have it's own registers-the Oxfordshire Parish Register Handbook says "see Mixbury or Spelsbury" under Fulwell

You asked about Aunt A Smith's address- it just said Fulwell nr Enstone
I have been trying to find out how big the hamlet of Fulwell actually is but I am not having much luck on Google. I thought that if I could find that out it would give me some idea if the Annie and John Smith could be the ones we were looking for
Thomas George was a shoemaker in NZ
I wrote this answer somewhere else so am rewriting it here in case you do not read back in the sequence

I am not sure just where all this fits but will ponder on it over the weekend. Thankyou Vicci. I will try and find our Thomas Smith's first wedding records from 1876 and see if that can help clarify anything about his mother.
He is a mystery!! If only people did a little more talking and scribing

the last 2 postings maybe red herrings but they are the only smith that come up in 1911 in Fulwell, by coinsidence they have a son Thomas and mothers name is Annie.
can find no connection to the Smiths of Shipton.
Do you have full address for the Aunt Smith from her letter?
Alos do you know the occupation of Thomas George Smith? was he a shoemaker?

His second wife was 36 and he says he is 31 on the marriage certificate.
There is just so many unknowns about this guy - and a family here in NZ that are hoping for some answers. That is why the newly found letter from Aunt A Smith from Fulwell has rekindled the questions
I wonder if he came out here to NZ as a small lad prior to 1861 census Thankyou again

Was his second wife much younger than him?
If so, he may have 'trimmed' his age a little

THis sounds good Elizabeth. And it matches except on his marriage certificate he says he is 31 in 1888. Five years is quite a lot to be out I would think! Or maybe not?
He came out to New Zealand prior to 1876 when he married first time around
Thankyou everyone- this is my first time using this message board. I am so impressed with the work you all put in helping people
Flick, I have a marriage certificate only for the second mariage . I have a newspaper cutting verifying the first marriage in 1876 Gaylene

You say that Thomas married in 1876........that would have made him only about 18, if your estimate of his birth year is correct.
BUT..............as shown above, there was no Thomas with the parents you name on the 1861 or 1871 censuses
Do you have the cert for the 1876 marriage?

Thankyou everyone. I know that the info is flimsy that I have given you to work with but that is all I have and no live descendants here in NZ with any Information
Thomas just disappeared after doing two years in jail in Napier Prison NZ ( 1893-1895) for bigamy And it was kept very hush hush so no one really knows anything. The letter signed A Smith was a breakthrough for us
Thankyou again
