Lol, I see what you mean on 1911 :-))
I think Susan's surname was Newland, a Marriage for her and Charles Barker 1874 Saffron Walden. (this comes under Esssex, and covers Clavering and nearby Langley)
1861 NEWLAND, Thomas Head Married M 40 1821 Shoe Maker Clavering Essex NEWLAND, Rachell Wife Married F 44 1817 Langley Essex NEWLAND, William Son M 12 1849 Agricultural Labourer Langley Essex NEWLAND, Thomas Son M 9 1852 Scholar Clavering Essex NEWLAND, Susan Daughter F 4 1857 Scholar Clavering Essex NEWLAND, George Son M 1 1860 Langley Essex RG number: RG09 Piece: 1120 Folio: 83 Page: 12 Registration District: Saffron Walden Sub District: 1 Newport Enumeration District: 6 Ecclesiastical Parish: Rochester Civil Parish: Langley Municipal Borough: Address: Lower Green, Langley County: Essex So looks like it's all coming together, slowly :-))
Just take your time to digest it all Margaret, it may seem a bit boggling, but interesting at the same time!, lol.

That is interesting,Margaret . I'm hoping Chris or Dea or someone will be able to look at the 1911 image as well. You'll laugh, but on first glance I thought it read "nearly skint".
Best regards, Maureen

Ah gosh, Chris, that makes sense. Well done again !!! I think I've caught up now (maybe ). I deleted 2 posts of mine because they were useless and the thread reads much better.
Not that it helps, but I did wonder about the Ba*ham connection. Elizabeth Green nee Ba*ham the widow who married James in 1905 doesn't seem to have ties with the Suffolk bunch . Just for the heck of it

Can anyone make out just what is after James Poole's occupation on the 1911 ? I think it says " nearly blind " . Could be wrong since I'm almost there myself.

On London marriages on Ancestry site you can look at the actual certificate.
James's father was named on there as George, a weaver.

Have you got the Birth Certs. of either Eva or Ernest Poole?...

(bringing this back, in case Margaret pops in, plus it seems confusing, lol)
I can't see a Marriage for James and Susan, but is this James with Jane on 1871?, there is a Marriage for a James Poole to Jane Basham on FreeBMD 1865 Suffolk (it has been corrected, as surname was Batham!)
1871 POOL, James Head M 31 1840 Suffolk POOL, Jane Wife F 25 1846 Suffolk BASHAM, Olga Cousin F 12 1859 Suffolk RG number: RG10 Piece: 1711 Folio: 153 Page: 24 Registration District: Risbridge Sub District: Haverhill Enumeration District: 6E Ecclesiastical Parish: Civil Parish: Haverhill Municipal Borough: Address: Burton End, Haverhill County: Suffolk
1881 POOLE, James Head Married M 41 1840 Genl Labourer Haverhill Suffolk POOLE, Jane Wife Married F 35 1846 Haverhill Suffolk RG number: RG11 Piece: 1712 Folio: 80 Page: 48 Registration District: West Ham Sub District: West Ham Enumeration District: Ecclesiastical Parish: Civil Parish: West Ham Municipal Borough: Address: 36, Florence St, West Ham County: Essex
Right, tricky bit!... Can you see take a look at 1881 above, and note the Barker family living next to James...the wife is Susan from Clavering, born 1857!! (ish) and a daughter born in Sawston, Cambs.
Now, on the 1891 Census as posted below, that Charles Barker is with a wife Annie, and James Poole seems to be with Susan!...
1891 BARKER, Charles Head Married M 35 1856 Manager Cocoa Rooms Langley Essex BARKER, Annie Wife Married F 27 1864 Upton Bishop Herefordshire BARKER, Melinda Daughter F 13 1878 Scholar Sawston Cambridgeshire BARKER, Ethel Daughter F 12 1879 Scholar Sawston Cambridgeshire BARKER, James H Son M 9 1882 Scholar West Ham Essex BARKER, Gertrude Daughter F 3 1888 West Ham Essex BARKER, Charles L Son M 2 1889 Romford Essex BARKER, Violet A Daughter F 0 (5M) 1891 Balham Surrey RG number: RG12 Piece: 444 Folio: 133 Page: 26 Registration District: Wandsworth Sub District: Clapham Enumeration District: 40 Ecclesiastical Parish: Ascension Civil Parish: Clapham Municipal Borough: Clapham Address: 75, Balham Grove, Clapham County: London
Here is James in 1901, West Ham, (as already posted) POOLE, James Head Married M 51 1850 General Labourer Haverhill Sussex POOLE, Susan Wife Married F 44 1857 Clarring (Clavering) Essex POOLE, Ethel Daughter Single F 22 1879 Lauston (Sawston) Cambridgeshire POOLE, Elsie Niece Single F 6 1895 Dalston London
Then the marriage for James Poole (widower) in 1905 Holborn, giving his father as George, a weaver. This ties in with in 1841 as posted below...
1841 POOL, George M 25 1816 Suffolk (Weaver) POOL, Maria F 25 1816 POOL, William M 9 1832 Suffolk POOL, George M 8 1833 Suffolk POOL, Hannah F 6 1835 Suffolk POOL, James M 2 1839 RG number: HO107 Piece: 1032 Book/Folio: 25 Page: 3 Registration District: Risbridge Sub District: Haverhill Enumeration District: Ecclesiastical Parish: Civil Parish: Haverhill Municipal Borough: Address: Down's Lane, Haverhill County: Suffolk (noting, there is another James Poole, b 1841 in Haverhill, parents Robert and Emily)
Does seem a tangle, I was wondering if Margaret had any birth Certs. for Eva M Poole, or Ernest from the 1891 census, to see what mothers maiden name was?...
Eva Maud Wombwell was buried in Sawston, Cambs. 1959, 11th April, aged 77, a widow.
Sorry to be rambling, but didn't get on till late last night, and won't be back till teatime tonight!, (got relative hospital and Mum visiting!) and it's been bugging me, lol :-))...
