Hello Patchem, I am new to this too. My grandfather was Alfred Samuel Brown - older brother of Walter John. I don't know how I can contact Carol if she isn't keeping her genes reunited email address up to date. Thanks for offering to help though.

Do you have any ideas of how we might locate Carol by other means? It's tricky I suspect.

I just wanted to share details of the family tree with her as we've some interesting things out about Estelle Matilda, their mother.

The problem is, still no John Walter birth.
He could have been registered just as John, or as Walter John

If he was 19 in March 1923, he would be 20 on his birthday in November, 1923, and so born in 1903.

On John Browns marriage cert it has his age as 19 on 18th march 1923.

The 1911 census states that Estelle was born in the West Indies.
In 1881 Estelle Emery is with her parents and siblings, most of them were born in Barbados

If he was 38 in March 1942 when he died, and his birthday is November, he would have been 39 in November 1942, and so born in 1903.
So, was he born in 1903 or 1904?

I looked up Thomas William Brown's birth in Edinburgh

parents were George Brown (stableman) and Estilla Matilda Brown nee Emery, they married 27 November 1887 in Swindon

I don't think there is a connection with these because of the dates.
