Sylann,

I think you will be very fortunate if you can find the death for Margaret Donaldson / McAlpine on Scotlandspeople. I can't even see how you would know it was your Margaret ... unless it stated she had been married to John McAlpine and possibly his occupation.

If she died before 1855 ... and it looks as if she might, then you are looking at Old Parish Records Deaths and Burials. As it states on Scotlandspeople, these death records have a very sparse coverage.

I have only found one of my ancestors on these OPR's pre 1855 ... and he had a very unusual name so I knew it must be my person. In fact, he was the only one coming up with that name.

There will be numerous Margaret Donaldson / McAlpine's in the OPR's ... not easy to isolate your particular person.

It's a Possibility
George the eldest of John & Margarets was a Tailor I think every one lived on High Street

Eringobragh1916 Report 8 Jul 2011 19:29

There is a George McAlpine...(Journeyman Tailor) aged 35...with family also living on High St...

Eringobragh1916 Report 8 Jul 2011 19:17

It may be worthwhile considering the "James " aged 15 (1841) may have been a John....seems rather young to be a journeyman shoemaker...???

After wasting more credits on scotlandspeople I'm getting desperate
I have John McAlpine in 1841 census Linlithgow aged 55 shoemaker born out of county living with his wife Margaret aged 55 born out of county and a tick for bornEngland/Ireland living with daughter Stewart
I can't find them after 1841 I've checked deaths 1841 -1854 nothing, I know he died before the death of Stewart in 1864, Stewart married in 1847 it didn't say he was deceased,
Quick check on scotlandspeople for 1861 census but none match the age he would be all born after 1800 I have got 6 deaths from 1851-1864 three don't match and the ages are 10yrs out so I'm thinking did he go to England??
They did have a son John born 1823 Linlithgow
Another problem is their is another John & Margaret McAlpine they had a son John born Linlithgow 1827!!!!
If anyone can help in any way it would be appreciated,

Maybe someone else will have more luck.

Sylann Report 1 Jul 2011 20:57

After a close look at the 1841 census Margaret is either born in England or Ireland ? They are both down as 55yrs old

Could I ask for a 1851 census look up please for Margaret McAlpine born England / ireland I don't think she would have reverted back to her maiden name if John had died ??

If she can't be found that could give me a possible 10yr span to look for a death

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 29 Jun 2011 22:43

This may be worth looking at?

I noted that John was a shoemaker on 1841?...I cant find the same couple on 1841 ,only the ones with Stewart? But that means nothing of course as Im not brill at finding Scottish census anyway...Still looking for someone myself on them. They keep moving the counties dont they?Dunbarton/Stirling..Make yer mind up I say..
