You may have to but the marriage certificate to Johanna and see whether Richard states he is a Widower....... if he is then it's very likely to be the same chap that married Elizabeth.

Don't discount it as the wrong family......... from what you tell us you don't have much to go on or know much about Richard.

Just about to say that may be Jean was their daughter age fits in and her name would have been walker ??

Trouble is proving it early deaths don't give fathers name

Just had a quick look for deaths of Elizabeth their are 2 Elizabeth Mcalpines and 26 Elizabeth Walkers between 1843-48

looks like alot of credits

The plot thickens,
They marry in 1848 yet daughter Jean aged 8 is their daughter, I've been looking for a death for Elizabeth and thinking Jean was the daughter of Richard & Elizabeth but as yet I've not found a death or birth
It doesn't suprise me the McAlpines are good at dying and not letting people know about it!!!

Sorry to keep on but is their any chance of finding Jean in 61/71 clutching at strews here Just hoping that something might help

sorry I did look for Jean on the 1861 census, but guess what.... couldn't see her! I checked under Walker, Mcalpine, Munro and Maclean, still nothing.
