It's a very old thread Andrew- you could click on Angela's name and send her a message.

Just to add to the original question on this thread, Donald married Joan Robertson in 1951 Dundee.

Dundee Courier - Monday 03 September 1951 (with photo of the bride)

Dundee doctor is Bride

Two bridesmaids attended Dr Joan Robertson, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Walter Robertson, 4 Caenlochan Road, Broughty Ferry, when she was married in Dundee Parish Church (St Mary's) on Saturday.

Her groom was Mr Donald Whelan, only son of the late Mr and Mrs S. P. Whelan, Thornton Heath, Surrey, and superintendent of Manor Hospital, Derby. D r Robertson, who is graduate of St Andrews University, favoured a dress of ivory damask grosgrain, the full skirt of which swept into a train. The ensemble was finished with a tight-fitting, long-sleeved coatee with small upstanding collar. A dainty corded headdress caught the filmy silk net veil and pink orchids formed her bouquet.

Misses Barbara Hanforth, Leeds, and Edna Black, bride's cousin, the bridesmaids, wore picture gowns of chartreuse yellow duchess satin showing tight - fitting bodices with high swathed necklines and full skirts trimmed with cross folds. Green foliage formed their bouquets. Mr Harvey Cheshire, Derby, was best man. and ushers were Messrs lan Eadie, Charles Porter, lan Murray and Duncan M'Kerchar. The ceremony was by Rev. John S. Mutch, Glenbuchat, Aberdeenshire, and late of Newport. A reception was held in the Royal Hotel, Dundee.

There is a death for Hilda Dearden aged 1 in Lancashire, my thinking maybe as Ruth's family come from Blackburn.

Well folks I think we have exhausted this thread for now.

Thanks for all your help

See that probate on Ancetsry and Donald looks to be the executor. It may be worth getting a copy of the actual will as it may have other family details on it

Not something I had thought about, there are quite a few marriages for Hilda Dearden but none with the middle initials, nothing to make you think yes I will risk that cert.

Wonder then as Ruth left her estate to Donald whether Hilda had predeceased her.

Ruth died Tring Herts 1941, there is Probate details on Ancestry, she left her estate to Donald.

As to Sydney well Shirley have you found the death I have been looking for, for years, I know that he was in the Reading area in 1939 from documents from the National Archives. Ruth in 1941 said she was a widow but she could have just said that as Sid was bigamist more than once!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
