Thanks, I hadn't even looked on his side yet, still trying to sort grandma!
I think the next step is to order the Manning birth certificate?

As all will be looking for grandma thought I'd try grandpa. You may already have this but here goes- Alfred H son of Alfred and Julia nee Chapman married 1913 Poplar. He had two brothers Leonard A 1919 and Ronald L all born in Islington. Both brothers seem to appear on peoples trees. Haven't found any other rellies yet but will keep trying.

You say Valentine was still alive in the 1970s. How do you know this and where was he living?

Thanks guys, that looks like the only William Henry Brown French, is there any way of finding out if he had any further children? I don't know how to go about that.

FannyByGaslight Report 28 Jul 2011 23:49

For a birth in August it looks to be the one with Manning as mothers maiden name then as posted by Mike earlier.

Worth a try anyway

Clarissa

Clarissa Report 28 Jul 2011 23:43

So, her birthday has always been in question, she said it was changed when she found out some information when applying for passport so we have 8th August and 21st August.

with regards to her father's occupation, she said there was some connection with a margerine factory.

as another note, the mother on her sisters birth certicate is listed as Rose French late Humphries formally Legg.

Clarrisa.

Did you note the baptism and death for one child in 1906 whose fathers name was William Henry Brown French?

Clarissa

Clarissa Report 28 Jul 2011 23:36

With regards to her marriage certificate - I do, yes. She lists her father as John French (deceased). However, just to add to the mess, her sister Ivy also listed her father as John French on her original marriage certifcate of 1943 but this was then crossed through and altered in December 1944 by the registrar with a handwritten comment saying "For John French read William Henry Brown French". My grandmothers marriage certificate has not been changed.

With regards to her birthday,

I am not sure how i can confirm or reject the Valentines, only thing to go on is the William French?

Andy - I had come across the Manning, but hadnt found the Valentine so that is interesting, what did you search on for that result?

many thanks guys :-D

As Patchem has asked on your other thread and I asked earlier

When was Millicents exact birthdate please?
Do you know?

Also on there you say she has father down as John French on marriage and so did Ivy although that was changed later.
But you did not say what his occupation was .

2 threads on this subject are not good..

So best to stick to one and say which one..

Edits...

Oh well done Maureen......Trust you to do the sensible thing and find his baptism..: :-D
