Hi

I'm looking for any information on the family that lived in Ty Newydd, Morfa Bychan.
I'm also looking for a record of the marriage of Hugh Jones (of Morfa Bychan and possibly Ty Newydd) to Mary Jones; I have been unable to find any record of their marriage. Their eldest child, Betty, was born in 1888.
Any help would be greatfully appreciated.

Is the mother's maiden name actually JONES? (As per the child's birth cert)

You may know where this place is........most of us don't.

Which county, please?

You can search by address on the 1881 census on Ancestry

seems this is a needle in a haystack job - in typical Welsh fashion the same forenames are used over and over again from generation to generation as I know so well from my Williams' here in Wales

Errr. Morfa Bychan is Caernarvonshire, very near to Porth Madoc. Used to go quite often when a kid.

AnnCardiff Report 23 Sep 2011 09:47

when I googled it came up as Ceredigion!! sorry folks

Flick Report 23 Sep 2011 09:51

County boundaries have changed since the 19th century...........probably explains the difference

Betty Jones is remarkably rare. only 4 on 1891 census. Must be registered under a different name.

Andy

You've found the family that I'm looking for.
Ann Jones aged 82 was the mother of Mary, wife of Hugh.

It is their marriage I can't find any record of. I know that Mary's father was called Evan and that he was from Morfa Bychan, whereas Ann was from Llanengan, Caernarvonshire.

Sorry for any confusion on the location of Morfa Bychan.

Jill

Jill Report 23 Sep 2011 10:35

Morfa Bychan is located just over 2 miles away from Portmadoc (now Gywnedd)
In its time it has been within the boundaries of Gwynedd, Caernarvonshire (and possibly) Merionethshire
