Anthony, the first thing you need to do is pinpoint his birth. You must know something else however small - how have you come by this name in the first place?
And have you tried 'search trees' as suggested?

there was no Wiliam J born in 1886

you do need to tell us what you know about this William that we don't ... especially parents' names so he can be found in a census for more info about him

possibly that William in the 1930 US census ? ... I do not subscribe for details

Unless Hilda was born before their marriage, she can't be their child - the numbers don't add up. An alternative could be that Katherine was married before, even though she gives age at FIRST marriage as 38. Assuming that William's details are correct and he was first married 10 years previously, then why does Katherine state that her first marriage was 12 years previously? It must have been a 2nd (or 3rd) marriage for both of them.

It isn't stated at what age Hilda married.

also the 'Churchill' is just added by Ancestry's system because the father's name was Churchill ... it can't be taken as evidence that her name was ever Churchill :-)

I hope Anthony comes back with some information !

The only jnformation I have .He was born at Handford to John Churchill and his wife Lena nee Arnold,Unfortunately I can not be too precise but have been told he emigrated to the U.S.circa 1920/24.I apologise for being vague but this is all I know.

also what your connection to him is, are you descended from John Churchill and Lena Arnold through another of their children for instance ?

that way we know what else you might know that would help locate more info

my own subscription to Ancestry expired a few days ago and I won't be renewing it immediately so I probably can't help more but perhaps someone else will be able to, but please post in the thread here and do respond to what has been added here by other members ... you see that probably a fair bit of time and effort has been wasted because you didn't give relevant information to start with, so please do answer questions here

and exactly what is the 'step-uncle' relationship, he was a step-brother of your parent ? if you are descended from a child of John Churchill-Coleman and he was a child of John Churchill-Coleman possibly he was your parent's half-brother not step-brother ? or was he a child of Lena Arnold before the marriage ?

this isn't just asking for irrelevant information, your exact relationship to him is important, for instance if he was really an Arnold then that name has to be considered when searching for him

The William Churchill born 1886 at Handford to John & Lena Churchill nee Arnold he eventually emigrated to the U.S. circa 1920/30's.I can only be vague as he would have been a step-uncle of mine and a lot of water has gone under the bridge.
