Find Ancestors

hi guys
im so foyed out...... i don't if there Asian or English as some of them have just plain foy and others foye, delafoy, and singfoy and tinfoy have looked on the nsw, nz and qld bdm index and dont seam to be any were

my one is Sarah may Matthews nee Foye/Foy Grocers Wife b abt 1854
and is deceased before 1951
husband James matthews also deceased

have marriage cert of son James Augustus Matthews
son born in Christchurch NZ and married in nsw 27th feb 1951 at stanmore
I'm sure his parents died in newzealand ...just cant seam to find them
i need a death ,birth and maybe a marriage....

any helpers for this one

These are only submitted entries, which means that someone researching this family has posted the info onto the web site (familysearch.org) so it is only as good as their research and will need confirming.
Hopefully one of our friends from across the water will look in and have a look for you.

There are 2 trees on Ancestry for James Matthews and Sarah May Foy but there is a lot of conflicting data
One tree gives James' birthyear abt 1854 Lurgan Galway Ireland and the same date and place for Sarah May - no death dates for either

The other tree gives James' birthyear as1850 Christchurch Canterbury NZ and death 1917 Christchurch Canterbury
Sarah May's birthyear us given 1851 Sydney NSW Australia and death 1923 NZ
There is something not right about the dates you have quoted for marriage of James Augustus - almost 100 years after his parents births!!
I think a generation has been missed out as there is another James Augustus Matthews ,son of James and Sarah born 1850 ish on the 2nd record which is
James Augustus Matthews b 1880 Christchurc died 1957 Auckland who married a Jessie Mary Morgan b1878 Gowrie's Crossing Toowoomba QLD and died 1979 Mount Eden Auckland
There is no marriage date but there is a daughter Jessie Elizabeth M Matthews born 1905 Paddington NSW She died 25 Feb 1986 Howick Manukau Auckland

The New Zealand BMD site has a Sarah May Matthews died 1879 aged 1 year (a daughter?)
Also a Sarah Matthews died 1923 aged 72 who would fit the d.o.b. given.

OK James Augustus Matthews married 3 times
1st marriage was to Louise Alice Hetherington in NZ
my mother said he was already an old man when he met my great gran
Jessie Mary Morgan i still cant find a marriage even tho its on there daughter my grans birth cert, that there married i have never found one...so i presume there they weren't..
i have his last marriage cert to olive joy broughton 2nd marriage for her
in 1951 Sydney..it states that James Augustus was a widower and was 71 yrs old. his parents both deceased before this last marriage
James Matthews grocer ,and Sarah may foy/foye which says the same on his 1st marriage cert
i have a lot of info on James augustus Matthews
all his siblings
but nothing on his father James or mother Sarah may foy/foye
the only death that matches is sarah's
none of any of the James Matthews match any death in NZ unless there was a middle name or he died earlier
i so wont to find out about James and Sarah........ its makin me jump in my seat :-D
these blimin Irish keep us on our toes lol

Could the marriage to your great-gran, Jessie Mary Morgan, be a second one for her also? This means she wouldn't have married as Morgan.

i have had a look at bdm nsw index and there are a lot of james matthews that have died
can some one do a check for me as well
i remember my mum saying that gus had a grocer shop in glebe or surry hills sydney (thats what james augustua was called )...
just maybe the shop belonged to his dad james matthews as gus was married in stanmore......it would be good to find out how can i find this info

i dont think she married james augustus matthews but i did find a marriage maybe she finiley got over him as she married a cartledge in hurstville sydney in the 50s or 60s
what a sweetie she was .....she was a pastry cook in sydney and went to nz wen i was 12 yrs old.... that was the 1st time i ever met her
and always had an errie feeling that there was a big secret hanging around..
i never found one but maybe it was the matthews thing ...never know !!!.

The only James Matthews that died in NZ recorded in 1917 is a James Henry Matthews and he died in Wellington... but the problem is not everything is recorded my grandfather's sibling died in 1933 and her death is not recorded.... and you would think NZ would have got their act together by then.

Take that back Barry there is a James Mathews (with one T) buried May 1917 recorded in Christchurch Cemetery but death is not recorded in BDM....
