I haven't got the marriage cert, but as the marriage cert will give her name as Mc person how can we know that any other info given is correct. There is a huistory of anti catholic sentiment in the area that they married and it seems that she came from a catholic background. My grandfather ( her grandson knew that his grandmothers maiden name had been mc Mann but her believed her to have been scottish protestant. Mcmahon is often pronounced as Mc mann.
the staffsbmd gives
GRINDEY Joseph MCPERSON Hannah Stoke, St Peter Stoke-On-Trent 31/13/016
if bernard in 1841 was illiterate when he said seven for the age of hannah it might have been heard as 11 so written as that.
also strangely my grandfather was friendly with a lady who had the same grandmother as he did ( he never said cousin) her name was mcmann

Hello Susan, can you give us some years of birth for the children?

Where were they in 1861?

How do you know McPherson was an alias?

Hannah Mcmahon used an alias of Hannah Mcperson when she married Joseph Grindey in stoke in 1858. In 1841 she is with the family of bernard and bridget mcmahon in broad eye stafford, but it gives no relationship to the head of the family Bernard McMahon. She appears to be again with bernard on the 1861 census this time as visitor with two youngchildren sarah ann and John grindey ( who is my great grandfather). It appears that she was born in Newry Joseph her husband was not with her on the 1861 census and I have not been able to find him on the 1861 census (he was born in meerbrook near leek staffordshire in 1835) joseph appears again on the 1871 census as a widower with four children.
1841 she is listed as11,1861 as 27 perhaps the first is a transcription error . Is she related to bernard- a daughter or is it a coincidence that she is with bernard on 2 censuses
Can anyone give me ideas as to how I find out more about Hannah?
Is there anyone more able than me who can manage to find Joseph on the 1861 census
