It is possible that the marriage did not take place. At least it did not at St John's as all the marriages are supposed to be transcribed on lan-opc for that year. As both addresses on the banns were in St John's parish it could be assumed that the marriage would have taken place there.

With the hotel connections it does seem likely to be the right Bernard. It is not the same address as 1911 as the banns were in the parish of St John (Blackpool parish church) & I would guess Preston Road of 1911 is what is now Preston Old Road which is in the parish of St Paul's in Marton

could the 1901 address be Fairhurst St?

I cannot find a marriage between Bernard Daly and Matilda Roberts on freebmd


and can't see a death for a Matilda Roberts.




but I couldn't find an Alice Daly on the 1901 census either!

Or did that marriage not happen.

Or Matilda die?

and he married Alice Murtagh 3 years later?




The only Bernard Daly that I could find in 1901 that seemed to fit "ours" was this one ................ I know it says birthplace London, but then almost everyone else on that list is shown as born either in ireland or London!
