Hi

Call me stupid (no dont) but how do you know that Wilde and Pickett are the same person?

On those records that have been posted Harry Pickett goes from being a labourer to being Harry Wilde and an electrician

Its not an uncommon name(s) and there are records for Harry Wilde with a father William in and around the same area that you mention

Just to be devil's advocate here, it's not impossible that he retrained as an electrician (he was young enough) and as the use of electricity was growing quickly at that time and there was the demand.

I do think that the 1917 marriage could very well be him, particularly given the father's first name and occupation.

Ginny/Marie Celeste,

This is a very complicated lifeline !!

I know that Henry Pickett born 1888 married in 1907 to Alice Ann Ruddock and had a son William Henry in 1908 he denied paternity and left Hunslet, I have been told recently that he worked in a mine in 1908,there was an accident and he disappeared - but I think he was a labourer on his marriage certificate of 1907.
He changed his name at some point to Harry Wilde and married Mary Ann Thomas in 1917 this was my fathers parents.
In 1932 when Mary Ann died Harry (Henry's) sister (Elizabeth Hunter nee Pickett found her brother after 20 + years and the Leeds history came to light.
I would like to confirm if he was a minor and if there was an accident that he disappeared from were there any local press reports or police reports that I could look into ? Also how would he have changed his name, legally or just assumed ? His first wife declared him dead after being missing for 7 years how would this have been recorded ?

June, given the circumstances I'd guess he just assumed the name. If he'd tried to change it legally he would have run the risk of being found.

That 1911 census I posted on page 1 gave that Harry Wilde's occupation as "Check Weigh Man". This is a definition of that job:

check·weigh·man
a representative elected by coal miners to check the findings of the mine owner's weighman where miners are paid by the weight of coal mined.

Thanks for the information, It would make sense that he was also a boarder at that time and the marriage status being left blank.
