IT will require lots of cross checking with addresses etc and patince eliminating the wrong ones but it is possible. I have quite a few and done quite well with them. More info is published on line each week.

Do you know the details for Woolwich archives?

Sheila

Sheila Report 23 Oct 2011 20:33

Many thanks ladies, you have given me lots to think about.

Such a lot...and I thought it would be a no find thing, with a name like SMITH......it is such a common name.

Thanks again

also the 1959 death certificate of Frederick Hohenrein 1877

the informants on both certificates could help identify a family member of a person they were residing with

LadyKira

LadyKira Report 23 Oct 2011 14:53

Hohenrein is almost unheard of in Greenwich and it is interesting she was using it at her death. Might be worth contacting the archives at woolwich to see if they can trace her.
Her death cert may be revealing too.

Agnes ? again, full name ...

Births Mar 1887
Smith Agnes Maria Greenwich 1d 1129

I suspect

- edit - no ! this is a different terribly coincidental person, I will leave it here to rule it out ... if you have already ruled out things like this it helps to say that too ... the below is this AMS

Births Dec 1887
Smith Agnes Maria Lymington 2b 64_

Marriages Jun 1909
FORD SARAH ANN Lymington 2b 1341
> HOAD Horace Charles Lymington 2b 1341
IRELAND Richard Charles Lymington 2b 1341
> SMITH Agnes Maria Lymington 2b 1341

1911

HOAD HORACE CHARLES 1888 23 Lymington Hampshire
HOAD AGNES MARIA 1888 23 Lymington Hampshire
HOAD RONALD STANLEY 1910 1 Greenwich London
HOAD HILDA AGNES 1911 3 MONTHS Lymington

so were you aware of that info before posting here ?

if so it is wise to provide the info one has about someone when asking about them ... also to give full names

I would say it is virtually certain that the marriage and death are Amelia Smith and there was an early estrangement, quite possibly she is somewhere in the 1911 census under a different surname if she partnered with someone else early

Sheila

Sheila Report 23 Oct 2011 00:06

Thank you LadyKira and Chrissiex for all this information.

Such a lot to go through.....I did see the tree on Ancestry, with no info on Amelia Georgina at all, only John Frederick.

Your help is very much appreciated.

if the tree owner is interested in the Hohenreins and John Frederick and Amelia Georgina Smith were estranged early that would explain their lack of info about her

could this be John's death, there is no matching birth

Name: Frederick Hohenrein
Birth Date: abt 1877
Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1959
Age at Death: 82
Registration district: Liverpool North
Inferred County: Lancashire
Volume: 10d
Page: 154

chrissiex

chrissiex Report 22 Oct 2011 21:29

what's the chance of an estrangement and remarriage or 'remarriage' ?

Marriages Jun 1923
Hohenrein Katie Kehlenbeck W.Derby 8b 613
Kehlenbeck Henry Hohenrein W.Derby 8b 613

one birth a while after ... our Amelia would have been about 45
oh and another before that, mother's name in index Kohenrein

so it seems that was this Katie's birth surname after all

no death of a Katie Kehlenbeck, or a Henry

hard to say with these names that could have got anglicized ( or be already like Henry for Heinrich )

that's probably out, anyway ... and she is probably daughter of Christian 1868 in 1911 census

HOHENREIN KATE 1890 21 West Derby

there is a Watson Hohenrein birth in West Derby 1927 also registered as Hohenrein Hohenrein

Amelia might have had a child and used her married name as her own ... maybe more likely could be child of Katie's sister Alice May ( 1900 Ulverston no further record ) ...

-edit - oops no their sister Freda Hohenrein married Watson

John Frederick's birth just for info as transcribed by freebmd

Births Mar 1877
HOHENR[ERK]IN John Frederick Pontefract 9c 151

LadyKira

LadyKira Report 22 Oct 2011 21:16

There is a tree on Ancestry that has JFH and has him married to Amelia Smith but knows nothing about her. You will need the marriage certificate but I am wondering if they may know of this apparent anomaly and reasons behind it.

I have seen the birth and posted the baptism but cannot see the 1911 in the married name although I have a possible 1911 where he calls himself a widower.

I agree K or C are interchangeable on Catheine.

Mind you i found a 5year old divorced the other day. ;-)

I am still at work so cannot give full attention to it.

chrissiex

chrissiex Report 22 Oct 2011 20:15

why LadyKira, here is the birth that matches perfectly ?

Births Mar 1883
Smith Amelia Georgina C Woolwich 1d 1242

probably it was Catherine and it got spelt Katherine or Kate

edit, oh I see, because he says he is widower in 1911
