Find Ancestors

I am trying to find Frank Strudwick (b 1847 in Sussex) after 1861. There is a possibility of a move to Pontypool as I have a marriage for a Frances (spelt the female way, though on the BMD record there are already two females on that entry so we could assume Frances is a man).

There are some births in that area between 1871 and 1881, though I cannot find anything on any census after 1861 and nothing for any spouse or children. If anyone could help it would be much appreciated.

They could have left the country, that I do not know. I can't imagine they all died before 1881 with no records, so emigration is what I'm thinking of but cannot find any evidence of that or anything else.

in one of my own oddly named families I've found that 'Str" is often turned into 'Sh' by Ancestry ... even something as simple as 'Strong' becomes 'Shong'

so it's worth looking for Shudwick and even Shadwick in censuses ... but no luck ... none born in Pontypool 1870 to 1880 for example

jax I wondered about the military maybe, would have been ripe for India in the 1870s, looked at Fibis for India, nothing there

One of his siblings, Mary Ann got married in Pontypool to a Jacob Rosser, and Frank could be the reason she ended up in Pontypool. She is my direct ancestor (my great great grandmother) in all this.

ah we crossed in the post, I was guessing what you've said to be fact about Mary Ann and Pontypool ...

there's no death or remarriage for either a Grace or an El*r Strudwick that looks applicable

emigration is looking likely !

Mary Ann is my direct decendent and am looking into Frank to see if he was the reason Mary Ann ended up in Pontypool, at a wedding perhaps? Family wise I am sorted down Mary Ann's line.
