Hello all

Sorry I've didn't get back I thought I'd finished

As you say that could be Mary Ellen remarrying John must have been born before Mary & William Married in 1900 as in 1911 it has brother John W Turner
The 1991 Census was the one I was going off but if this is their mother what happened to them ??

Farm Labourer and Chimney sweep didn't seem right to me

But if I have got the right family Mary Ellen's father Henry was a chimney sweep ??

Just noticed this morning 1891 census Edward Turner 43 is living next door with wife Sarah Also Esther Crosby 59

This is where it gets complicated Thomas Turner 1857 had an uncle Edward 1848

Mary Ellen Crosby 1857 had a sister Sarah 1849

Could this be the missing link

Sylann Report 1 Nov 2011 19:00

Could I be cheeky and ask for a 1911 census on Mary Ellen Cannon please Just wondering if one of her children from her first marriage might be living with her

Sylann Report 11 Nov 2011 13:40

I must have done something wrong as I renewed my request very early this morning but just realised it didn't appear, it was at 3-30am

I'm hoping someone can help with my request

I posted this on the other thread as well

"he witnesses were James Cannon & Caroline Charlesworth

on the wedding certificate it has my gran was 20 but this doesn't add up as she was born in 1884
Joseph was killed in WW1 1917 aged 29 so his age does fit with the marriage certificate"

the age on the marriage certificate for Catherine fits with the census of 1911 so is more likely to be right than the age on the death certificate. The person registering the death may not have known her exact age and made a guess. It frequently happened.

there was a Thomas Turner living at 38 Chapel Street, manchester in the 1896 trades directory who was a chimney sweep. Directories took a couple of years to compile but strangely did not find a Henry Crosby in either that one or in 1895, nor did I find Thomas in 1895

Sylann Report 24 May 2012 13:58

So i'm back !!!

Witness James Cannon this seems to fit with Mary ellen Remarrying

from what Dea said on my other thread she thinks i have the wrong marriage for Thomas's father ?? Thomas

To recap I have Marriage register office Chorlton 5th August 1907

Joseph Turner aged 20 bachelor Labourer in Iron works father Thomas deceased farm labourer
catherine Kelly aged 20 Spinster father james Joseph Kelly Deceased labourer in Iron works
Wit James Cannon & Caroline Charlesworth

June 13 1878 St Andrews Manchester

Thomas Turner 19 Bachelor Sawyer father Thomas Turner a Spinner
Mary Ellen Crosby 19 spinster a piecer father Henry Crosby a chimney sweep
Wit:- Joseph Turner & Mary Ann Turner
both living at * Nuns Sq Manchester

This is the one I've been following but Dea has pointed out it doesn't fit

manchester Cathedral July 26 1853

Thomas Turner 25 Bachelor Tailor 12 Bloom St Hulme father Thomas Turner Cordwainer?
Sarah Price 27 Spinster 7 Alice St Hulme father James Price Cordwainer
wit Jane Hodgkinsons & ?? looks like Jonah Beuson

If anyone can check with me /for me and see if I have got the right families?
The one I'm really unsure about is the last one Thomas a Tailor
apparently their is a Thomas a tailor & Sarah in 1861 census which doesn'y seem to match the info I have

baptism Sarah Ann 12-3-1853 St Andrews d of Thomas Turner & Sarah Hallam (before the marriage) - Thomas a spinner of 7 Berry St (then under that address I think it says Stone Street which is the address on the baptism of Thomas I posted)

Joseph 31-3-1861 St Andrews - s Thomas (spinner) and Sarah of I think it says 40 Berry Street

As this is immediately before the 1861 census that is the most likely address for the family

sorry for the late reply - been off line for a couple of days

familysearch.org is a free site

the marriage link seems to work but the baptisms have taken a while to load

Sometimes when an update to the site has been done the link changes

An alternative way to look at them is to go into familysearch.org

scroll down to browse by location and select UK

scroll down to
England, Lancashire, Cheshire, Yorkshire, Parish Registers, 1603-1910

select then scroll down to browse images

you can then select Lancashire, the church you want and the records

the 1st baptism is on image 46 (type it in the box & press enter)

the 2nd baptism is image 77

the marriage is image 87
