Shirley. I found on the 1871 census a Mary Ann Thompson staying with her grandparent... Byrne. I wonder.

We know that this Gertrude has a sister Mary Ann who was with grandparents (Maria's parents) in 1871.

This census also shows a sister Ellen and a brother Michael.

Only James is missing and there is a son J.J. with them here also - perhaps one of those 'J's is for James???

The only way to se sure, of course, is to get that marriage cert!

1881 census for Michael and Maria has gertrude age 7 weeks.
If she was born 8/2/1881 then she would have been 53/54 days old so looks like the right one!!
