I know Joseph was born in Northumberland, and not Durham

jax

jax Report 29 Dec 2011 18:40

Even if she was 18 when she married her first child was born when she was approx 40? so that is why I said maybe there were more children which had perhaps married before 1841 or died?

jax

Barbz

Barbz Report 29 Dec 2011 18:23

Could be the birth date is not accurate, and using that as a guide etc

jax

jax Report 27 Dec 2011 18:52

Seems strange to marry in1789 aged approx 13 and not start having children until almost 40? as most families back then had at least 10 children...whether they lived or not , thats another story?

jax

Barbz Report 27 Dec 2011 18:28

I am not sure if there were anymore siblings/children prior to 1841

Thank you for your work

jax

jax Report 26 Dec 2011 18:44

Could they not have had more children that had moved out by 1841?

Barbz

Barbz Report 26 Dec 2011 17:36

The family as mentioned above are all in the 1841 census: Joseph, Ann, Elizabeth, Robert, Jane and Ann.

Having another check on the alternative website www.familysearch.org, i have come across another Joseph Bewick who was buried 12 Nov 1851 in Holy Trinity South Shields, Northumberland, England....

Joseph's father is called Robert, again I am not sure where he is from but looking on the named website he married a lady called Elizabeth.

The whole reason why I am trying to trace my paternal line is to see if there is a link between my family and the family of Sir Thomas Bewick, who was born in Cherryburn Northumberland......

Thanks

I too am thinking that the first Ann died and Joseph has re-married to another Ann. It just seems strange that the birth dates of the children are so much later than the original marriage.

The 1841 census is correct in the information that i already have

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 26 Dec 2011 17:13

On the 1841, Ann could be anything up to 69 years old.

In the 1841 Census a policy of rounding down ages was in place. As such, people aged:

•15-19 were recorded as 15
•20-24 were recorded as 20
•25-29 were recorded as 25
•30-34 were recorded as 30
•35-39 were recorded as 35
...... etc

Also, the baptisms may have been some time after the birth.

Looking at the dates of birth of the children ie 1815-1822, I'm wondering if Joseph married a different Ann????

I am not a 100% sure if Joseph died in 1835 as he is mentioned in the 1841 census, it would seem impossible

Barbz

Barbz Report 26 Dec 2011 16:55

thanks all

i've just been going from the census, 1841 Ann states her birth was 1776 and Joseph 1774, residing in the Castle Ward - Ponteland district

LondonBelle

LondonBelle Report 26 Dec 2011 16:51

If this is the marriage, it states that Ann is a Minor (so birth of 1776 is a possibility)...unfortunately no father's names!
