I will leave this now until Alan comes back with some more info.

We cannot connect the correct one until we know who we are trying to connect him to!

hi Dea, this all i know;
the henry on my tree was born abt 1846 in Standish but no record of birth,
my tree lists his father as Nicholas Bimson b1823 Croston, his grandfather was Luke bimson b 1787 Mawdesley.
The correct Henry married Alice Pendleton on 3/8/1868 at Wigan Register Office on 3/8/1868 no father listed on certificate so there is nothing to say which family he comes from, later census records say he was born in Dalton which would tie in with another Henry b1845 whose father was also called Henry and a completely different family. I have no idea which is the correct Henry
Alan.

I take it you have the marriage cert to Alice.

Who are the witnesses on there please? and addresses etc.

Hi Dea, yes i have the certificate, the witnesses are Henry Eccleston and Sarah Ann Eccleston whom i presume to be bother in law and sister of the bride. The brides father was William Pendleton, residence for bride and groom are given as Poolstock Wigan. Groom is aged 22 and bride as 28' all signed with a cross.

1851 census clearly shows 2 Henry's - 1 born in Standish and 1 in Dalton.

They seem to have been confused into one on your tree?

Henry Bimson abt 1846 Dalton, Lancashire, England Grandson Dalton, Lancashire

Henry Bimson (parents Nickolas,& Charlot)
abt 1846 Standish, Lancashire, England Son Leyland, Lancashire

I am still looking for info to confirm which is 'your's' !

lancashireAnn Report 21 Jan 2012 14:36

this is presumably the marriage of your Nicholas & Charlotte - not married until 1848

Marriage: 26 Jan 1848 St Peter, Mawdesley with Bispham, Lancashire, England
Nicholas Bimpson - (X), 25 Weaver Bachelor of Mawdesley
Charlotte Woods - 25 Weaver Spinster of Charnock Richard
Groom's Father: Luke Bimpson, Weaver
Bride's Father: Henry Woods, Weaver
Witness: Laurence Sumner; Alexdr Moorcroft
Married by after certificate from the Superintendant Registrar by: Martin Twiss Incumbent
Register: Marriages 1843 - 1900, Page 15, Entry 30
Source: LDS Film 1526409

If no father named on Henry's marriage certificate it would often indicate that he was born out of wedlock

lancashireAnn

lancashireAnn Report 21 Jan 2012 14:42

this is pure guesswork but if Nicolas & Charlotte did not marry until 1848 could this be Henry

Baptisms: 22 Feb 1846 Parish Church, Euxton, Lancashire, England
Henry Woods - Child of Charlotte Woods
Abode: Charnock Rd.
Occupation: Weaver
Baptised by: J. Williams
Register: Baptisms 1841 - 1900, Page 11, Entry 82
Source: LDS Film 1526079

have you found Nicholas & Charlotte on the 1851 census?

(Euxton approx 7mls from Dalton)

Hi Ann, thanks for the info abt Henry Woods/Bimson that seems to answer why we can't find a birth certificate for him.
We have the 1851 census that shows Henry 5yrs old born Standish living with NICHOLAS, CHARLOTTE, LUKE 5 MTHS and LUKE grandfather.
thanks Alan :-)

I still have a 'leaning' towards the other one being yours!!

i.e. - the 'grandson' on the 1851!

Can't explain why but I am working on it !!

I have been looking at it and I have not pinned them down as yet, though, they did have a daughter Ellen on 1841 and we know that an 'Ellen' unmarried had a son Henry in the area but that was c 1842 so it is still very confused.

I will work on it again tomorrow.

The Ellen who had a son Henry in 1842 - did we think she was the Ellen Banks in 1991. That one shows the Henry Bimpson (son) as widowed and living with her in 1881 so not the Henry married to Alice (see p1)

Dea

Dea Report 22 Jan 2012 10:27

I agree - he (Ellen's son) is not the Henry we are looking for, although he also married an 'Alice' but a different one .

I am still looking.

P.S. - He is the same one who was down as 'grandson' on 1851 - he was entered once with his family and again with his grandparents - confirmed by the fact that his sister Mary was also with him in both households.

what puzzles me is that on both 1851 & 1861 Jane & Henry are the same age and there are birth registered in Upholland for Esther (Easter!) Ann, Jane & Mary. Why not Henry?

eg

Lancashire Birth indexes for the years: 1851
Surname Forename(s) Sub-District Registers At Mother's Maiden Name Reference
BIMSON Mary Upholland Wigan & Leigh UPHL/6/358
