Re Frederick's birth

This was on ancestry, a response to a question asked by Kevin

"I have a birth certificate for Frederick, son of Charles Matthew Siggs and Margaret Ohren. He was born on 31st August 1846 at 1 Blenheim Terrace, St Luke, Chelsea. In 1861 Margaret Siggs (widow) was at Arthur St, St Luke with children Matthew, Louisa, Jessie, Frederick, Jane and Joseph. This is all I know about the Siggs line. I haven't yet proved it but I think Margaret was the daughter of Magnus Crosby Ohren, stationer of Broad Street, Ratcliff and Margaret nee Savage.

I am descended from a cousin of Magnus Crosby Ohren - Magnus Ohren, who was manager of the Bell Green gasworks in Sydenham, Kent. Margaret Ohren, who started this thread, and I are common descendents of Magnus's grandson, Edward Magnus Ohren, born in Devon in 1877."

so it sounds as if it is not certain that Charles Matthew's second wife was Margaret Ohren, or another Margaret ....... the possibility exists that it is the latter.

Research through the night!! Good effort people :-)

Margaret Ohren was christened in 1830 along with 2 other of her siblings. I think she was born in 1821. She was christened in St. Dunstan, Stepney.

James (Wiffen/Wiffing) Siggs was married in St. Dunstan, Stepney and his wife came from there.

Elizabeth Ann in 1851...Widowed. My Charles is still alive in London..

2 Charles Matthew Siggs.. It's bugged me for several years, now I've revisited the problem and it seems to be resolving itself thanks to people on here !

In answer to your other thread

Peoples ages changed on the censuses, some people didnt even know when they were born! It's quite normal for them to show with a couple of years either side

So, Fredericks age change.....doesnt mean he was Jessie' twin

WhiffingSiggs

WhiffingSiggs Report 7 Feb 2012 20:59

And that's the question, isn't it? Frederick was born in 1846, confirmed. When was Jessie born? Unknown.

Gee

Gee Report 7 Feb 2012 21:01

Theres no birth for Louisa as far as I can see either, it was not an offence not to register births until sometime in the 1870s

WhiffingSiggs Report 7 Feb 2012 21:03

Frederieck registered under both surnames
so maybe parents not yet married at the time

Births Dec 1846
Ohren Frederick - Chelsea 3 62
Siggs Frederick - Chelsea 3 62

Maybe he and Jessie were step siblings ( or is it half siblings ?)
